92.5 the Breeze

Wondering if 98.1 The Breeze in San Francisco will flip to All-Christmas. Maybe...Maybe not

When I moved to West Sacramento in 2014

In November of that year, I think at the time Star 106.5 tried Christmas Music

How did that turned out?

I don't remember that, and it's unlikely, as 106.5 and 96.1 were both Entercom at the time.

The year prior, iHeart went all-Christmas with 93.1 (then KHLX) and came out of it on December 26, 2013 as KFBK-FM, simulcasting the AM.

KUDL did go Christmas many years before the CBS/Entercom merger. I think it was only one season though.

KHLX did Christmas annually during it’s classic hits days. I believe they would flip right after Thanksgiving, whereas KYMX would begin shortly after. KKFS also plays a blend of secular and religious Christmas music each year.

Interesting that 92.5 KBEB The Breeze, owned by iHeart, has already flipped to Christmas music. But the other big Christmas music station in Sacramento, 96.1 KYMX, owned by Bonneville, has not switched to Holiday sounds yet. Usually when one goes, the other does too. You don't want a competitor getting a jump on you.

I miss the good ol days when the local AC stations would flip to all CHRISTmas music on or the day after Thanksgiving. Then the CHRs would flip on CHRISTmas eve. But the yule log all CHRISTmas day on channel 36 is still the childhood memory that still exists and never gets old.

Ironic that you emphasize the Christ in Christmas yet wax nostalgic for the pagan log.
You are very judgmental and a tad rude. The log is not pagan, it is warmth for many. And, not that it is anyone's business... but.... For me, it reminds me of childhood at my grandmother's for CHRISTmas. She didn't have a fireplace, so she had the tule log on and told the little kids that Santa was going to come through the fireplace on TV instead. They all believed it. I knew better and did not share in the pagan Santa stuff, but it rings nostalgia anyway because it reminds me of my grandmother and all the cousins being together that one night every year. Never saw any of them any other time, only CHRISTmas eve and morning.

If they could just figure out how to improve the audio after putting their PPM cheating processor on it...

Not that I have any reason to jump to iHeart's defense...

It's not fair to call it a "cheat". It doesn't make PPM devices register a radio station the wearer isn't listening to. It just maximizes the readability of the encoding.

That said, yeah, it's awful. On pretty much all the iHeart stations. I can't listen to KFBK on AM because of what Voltair does.

But then, that's the tradeoff they're choosing to make. Unless I'm alone, they're driving away listeners in an attempt to maximize what maybe a few dozen devices in the market at any given time can detect.
