Knoxville Towers

I was in Knoxville today and was surprised by how many towers I saw in the Sharp's Ridge area. It seemed like each TV station has its own tower. And I saw virtually no FM on those towers.

Out of curiosity, which TV station is on the candelabra tower?

I had always wondered why the TV folks never went together and put up an extra tall tower on the ridge. Back last century in the analog days Channel 10 built a very high tower (I believe it was north of town) and they ended up with a "shadow" downtown and had to use an UHF translator for downtown. I was told at one time there were a few FM antennas just below the TV stuff but Knoxville (not counting translators) didn't get a lot of commercial FM allocations. There are a lot of move and so those antennas might not be able to go on Sharp's Ridge and cover their City of Licence.

Sharps Ridge is home to WJXB, WKHT, WUOT, WOFM, WYLV, WJXB and several translators:

Isn't WJXB and WIMZ on a tower on Sharp's Ridge since their studios are?

WVLT-TV (CBS) is on the candelabra tower along with WUOT-FM (91.9). I feel like another TV station might be on there as well. WBIR-TV (NBC) and WATE-TV (ABC) occupy the middle towers. The red and white tower is WJXB-FM (97.5). Also, WYLV (88.3), WOFM (89.1), WKHT (104.5), translators on 92.3, 93.7, 94.7, 97.1, 98.1, 99.7, 102.5, and 102.9. I couldn't tell you exactly which tower each of those signals are on.

According to this: WLVT:

The second tallest tower is FCC-licensed as "Richland Towers Tower Lonsdale." It is 1,352 feet (412 m) tall, with a candelabra antenna platform at the top. It is owned by Richland Towers, Incorporated, which leases it to WVLT-TV PSIP Channel 8, (which operates WVLT-DT on digital Channel 30), and WKOP-TV PSIP Channel 15 (which operates its WKOP-DT digital Channel 17), whose antennas all broadcast from the candelabra array at the top. The "Lonsdale" reference in the license, refers to the Knoxville neighborhood in the valley just below the tower.
