Holy crackers batman, Houston In Alaska!

And no, not Houston, Alaska (KAGV 1110)

.. Houston, Texas 3478 miles away on Dec 8 in the 6pm AK hour ((Dec 9, 0300UTC Hr)

i heard KGOW somewhat briefly but decently, though not a new log.....and i have heard them better before.

But the new log! I was hearing spanish music on 1540 which didnt immediately spring anything to mind but then I heard "Power uno cero cinco punto tres" and mentions of Houston... I knew I had KGBC Galveston, TX 3.5kw day(2.6KW critical hours) 2 tower pattern looks like a mushroom leaning on its left side, 185 Watts night looks like a goldfish cracker

Heck of a catch! Wonder if they were still on day or CH power?

No idea, even so...... its not pointed in my direction.... and isnt alot of power

Night pattern still out of whack. They shouldn’t be putting anything in the direction of Alaska.

Nice catch. KGBC’s night signal is usually lost in the 1540 pileup at my NW Harris County location ~65 miles from the transmitter.

Interesting. I've been catching Mexican music on 1540 for the last couple of evenings close to dark, rather weak and near impossible to ID due to just how weak it is. Thought that 1540 in Dallas was back on at greatly reduced power, but hadn't thought that'd possibly be KGBC down on the island. I'll have to pay closer attention to 1540 and see if I can throw that newbie on the log.

As soon as i heard ""Power uno cero cinco punto tres"" I was like..."Houston... thanks radiodiscussions" and put it in my log. I knew instantly who this was thanks to all the chatter here :)

Beware of KEDA in San Antonio, though its 1kw night pattern suppresses the signal to the NE. However the 5kw day signal might be audible during critical hours.

That one I'd recognize, 🐸. We have a sister "Jalapeño" station at 1700 in Dallas, spinning the same worn out Tejano fare that KEDA does.

I haven't gotten anything at 1540 lately, according to my spreadsheet (log), but will check more frequently.

There are local Spanish stations here in central TX on 1530, 1560 and 1600 that are usually strong, so may make it difficult to receive anything.
