Buffalo November 2024 book

As per RadioInsight.com . 12+ only. This covers Sept.-Nov. Only the top 5 are listed, but I'll link to the full list. And no, WECK is not listed.

1. WYRK/106.5 10.1(up .9)
2. WBLK/93.7 9.4(up .4)
3. WGRF/96.9 7.0(down 1.5)
4. WHTT/104.1 6.4(down .3)
5. WBEN/930 6.3(down .4)

And the full link.... Buffalo/Niagara Falls

Sharp drop for 97-Rock while WYRK gets to double digits for the first time in a long time. The Bills are also being very good to WGR. WBLK also continues a strong upward trend. WBEN continues a downward trend.

There have been changes on 97-Rock that may be catching up with them ratings-wise. It will be interesting to see how things play out over the next few books. Right now, we're in a ratings lull, so it'll likely be a few monthlies before we get any real idea whether the market is actually moving.

What changes of any consequence has this station made?
The online playlist looks identical to last year, and the year before, and the year before. WBUF didn't benefit from the 97 Rock ratings drop. They have a sickly 1.5. Commercial Rock formats are almost entirely Nostalgia based. In the case of 97 Rock, it's aimed at aging White guys whose last record purchase was Van Halen's first album...

It's a sad statement that WLKK, as a second rate country station with a marginal signal that does nothing to distinguish itself from market leading WYRK beats WBUF.

They aren't really beating them. They both have abysmal ratings. The companies that own them are content to let these stations twist in the wind...

Tom Tiberi is gone, and it seems that there's been a change in mid-days with Jim Jacka taking over, following Shredd and Ragan's move over from The Edge. The Edge has a new mid-day guy according to the website.

WBEN got a 6.3 during a raging election book? Yikes.

Realistically, how many people under 55 are listening to WBEN? Their days of having a 10 share and being a player in 25--54 ended many years ago. Any advertiser on this station certainly must know who they're reaching...

And lots of local advertisers don't use ratings and judge by the cash register... local retail does not put such importance in demographics. In medium and smaller markets, most business is local direct, not national and regional agency orders.

WBEN is owned by Audacy, not an independent. You have said on many occasions that Corporate groups are not capable of selling for older demos. It's too hard and expensive(plus old folks don't respond to advertising)has been your mantra...

97 Rock and WBEN (albeit only incrementally) trending down is interesting and curious. Given the November election and all the noise that accompanied it, conventional wisdom would have WBEN trending up. 97 Rock sliding two full shares over two months may be indicative of the changes that were made to the 7-midnight daypart, notably Slick Tom Tiberi being fired. Hard to say. It's only Persons 12+ after all.

The 7p --Midnight shift is the same as overnights now. It's no longer 1995, even though the playlist on this station hasn't changed since then. Maybe it wasn't a "Rock Book". Some people said they would boycott this station when the previous morning show was fired, but the ratings stayed about the same. The available audience after 6pm for Radio is pretty small...

As I've said before, WBEN's demos can best be described as having one foot in the grave with the other just waiting to join them. Young people are not rushing to fill the void left by older listeners as they pass away.

No, that is not true. While it is much less than the daytime dayparts, it is still significant. In fact, the 7,8 and 9 PM hours look very good on many stations. It is after that that the numbers bottom out.

Look at the cume figure for 7-Midnight in a variety of markets. It is anything but "small".

You are making up "facts" to support your argument.

It ain't what it used to be. Sales people bend and twist "facts" to overcome objections. You've said older demos don't respond to advertising and yet in this very thread; you say local retailers don't care about demographics. Even Prime Time Network TV isn't getting the ratings they once did...

The dominant assertion (assumption?) made by posters here is that right-wing talk radio is doomed because only old folks listen to it, and they're dying off at an ever-increasing rate. Yet the MAGA movement itself seems to attract a good number of people in the "money demos." I run into red hat wearers of all ages over in rural New Hampshire, and the rally crowds I see online and on TV aren't dominated by retirees either. So shouldn't some of these folks be listening to conservative talk, especially in markets with FM talkers (either stand-alone or simulcasts/translators)? Or has the younger portion of the MAGA base just abandoned all over-the-air radio and gets all the ideological reinforcement and "those libtards are at it again" screeds online?
