WNAH Transmitter Site Moving

A recent Engineering STA filed with the Media Bureau states that the lease on land where the antenna and transmitter sits will end on January 31th, 2025 due the landowner wanting to develop the land (or a substantial increase in lease terms). The STA request was granted. It will see the transmitter move to another tower near Briley Parkway and Interstate 65 with an Isotron antenna. WNAH has been on the current site since 1963. The original site was approximately 150 feet south.

An Isotron is better then being off the air. I could see WNAH diplexing with another station if its affordable to build and lease the space based on their billing otherwise i see this eventually dying. Theryre going to lose a dozen or so of the dozen and a half old listeners they have when they mvoe to the isotron

It is. This would be three in the area using Isotrons. If it works, it works.
The area around the transmitter site is hot for development. There's a lot of cardboard cut-out box condos that are about the same as all the others in town going up as well as more apartments. The new juvenile justice center is going in next to WVOL's site which is across the interstate from WNAH. All but one of the hotels along Brick Church Pike south of Trinity Lane were demolished. A Subaru dealership took the place of one of them. It didn't take long after the hotels were demolished for things to change.

Yeah, there ain't no way those folks will remain in that area. Look at what happened with Hippie/YGI. The land values will be 15 times higher in 5 years than today. And they are insane now. That area was in the middle of nowhere when I was a kid. Now the land of skyline views for millions. Long live the Isotrons. They are cheaper than a bottle of Dom Perignon to celebrate the land sell and sign offs. $$$. Semi-attempt at humor with facts subject to interpretation.

Who are the other stations using Isotrons? I would like to listen to them and see if I can tell a difference.

You won’t hear a difference in audio on consumer radios. But the short antenna and limited ground creates the coverage of an old incandescent flashlight vs. a new 100 watt LED bulb.
