Any special Christmas programming on radio?

I remember KNX filling the day with radio specials from the 30s-40s.

KABC used to simulcast the Disney parade that was on ABC.

Anything happening today?

I turned on KFI early this morning and heard Neil Savedra saying something about suicide, so I turned it off.

Westwood One is providing live coverage of both NFL games today, and from what I can tell, neither are being heard in LA.

The Lakers game will be on KSPN tonight. ESPN Radio is offering college bowl games, but none are on in LA.

As far as music programming, KOST continues its Christmas Music. That's about it. All of the holiday specials aired already.

Back in the day, when TV networks owned radio stations, they could force their programming on radio. Not anymore.

Speaking of TV, KTLA 5, as usual on Xmas, broadcast a fireplace all morning in place of the news.
I don’t get why stations do that. It’s basically them telling us “we don’t know what else to put on”. I’d rather tv stations just throw an Andy Griffith re-run. My former station did a Yule log (we were an NBC) it drove me crazy every year

Did KLAC drop WW1? If so it’s a shame. I always found it funny I used to make bank on WW1 games, but everyone else acts like they don’t know how to sell a freaking NFL game, regardless if it’s radio or not. Does KNX still simulcast 60 minutes on Sundays? Or still do their radio theatre on Sundays? Merry Christmas TBA

Lots of music on talk stations ... others had "best ofs."

"American in the Morning" was live, as was programming on WABC. Were any other stations around the country doing live talk?

I didn't listen for very long. Just my impression from sampling.

I’m sure Fox Sports Radio and ESPN had live talk with games going on today

I was listening to WBAP early this morning and they were playing Christmas music, so was Kansas Public Radio. KCJJ did live talk and Christmas music.

How does that work with talk stations playing music? Do they pay the annual fee for the right to play music or do they get a waiver? Or, is it just one of those “who gives a rip”?

Talk stations pay for "incidental music." So it's a reduced fee. But a lot of older Christmas music is in the public domain. So it could also depend on what they play.
i ran an AM that was talk and the network used real songs as bumpers, was nothing incidental about it

How much of the song did they play? Less than :30? That's incidental.

Here's how they define is:

There were a few cases, as i recall, where the network used songs as intro music for shows.

It was either the 22nd or 23rd but for the first time, I actually heard the original radio play "It's A Wonderful Life"....I think it was on Zoomer radio [AM740} out of Toronto or it could have been on WBBM on their "When Radio Was" program. I've seen the movie but never heard the play and all I could think of was that George Bailey sure sounded a whole lot crankier and meaner in the radio play then the movie. Guess he needed some Preparation H. I also assumed they fleshed out the movie quite a bit from play or shortened up the radio play as it was just under an hour in length.
