KAPN 107.3 / K272FK 102.3 "Classic Hits 102.3 & 107.3" new programming

Brazos Valley Communications' "Classic Hits 102.3 & 107.3" (KAPN 107.3 Caldwell, K272FK 102.3 College Station translating KORA-HD3) simulcast in Bryan-College Station appears to have switched programming sources. I noticed the change after KAPN switched back to normal programming from all-Christmas on the 26th. With this change comes all-new imaging, replacing what we've been hearing for quite a few years at this point.

Doing some quick research on the jocks listed on the website would seem to indicate that the new programming is being sourced from LRN. The previous format was, as far as I can tell, the Westwood One Classic Hits Total feed.

I immediately noticed that the audio quality on both KAPN and the 102.3 translator is immensely improved. The source material from Westwood One appeared to be of poor quality, especially following the aggressive processing on both stations. Now Playing info via RDS is only visible on KAPN at this time, and is not present on the translator's RDS yet. The simulcast is anywhere from half a song to two songs ahead on the translator.

I would be quite curious to know why they dropped the Westwood One feed. Either way, a welcome change.

He’s been a staple in Chicago for a long time. He was the night guy on 104.3 K-Hits for several years. Not sure if he’s on any terrestrial station there at the present time, though.

LRN actually has a studio and office in Denver where the programming guys are located, both ex WW1 management and since LRN nabbed several ex WW1 and denver radio talent, they put together a few VT studios there. With the exception of one or two other talent over time that were based at Swick HQ in Angola, IN.. talent works from home.
