I don't think startup networks are working. Cable will probably downsize, not add more channels. Here's another prediction:
Netflix will announce that it will be launching its own sports network competing against ESPN and FS1, given that they smashed viewership numbers with NFL Christmas games and WWE having its presence starting with Raw(being moved from USA Network). All of the sports related shows/documentaries as well as news and highlights will be available on-demand.

Popeye presents an interesting study of copyright law. As of next year, only the character as he appeared in a 1929 Thimble Theatre comic strip is public domain. Since he didn’t start eating spinach until 1931, featuring that characteristic in a derivative work may warrant a call from Popeye’s rights holders, Hearst Holdings.
Hearst also holds a trademark to the Popeye name which doesn’t expire, but it’s unlikely they could weaponize it to block any public domain efforts. So long as a new Popeye work doesn’t assert it was created by Hearst, it should be legally protected from retaliation.
The same is true of Mickey Mouse, who famously entered public control in 2024 but only as he appeared in the short Steamboat Willie. Now, because Mickey started speaking and sporting white gloves in 1929, it’s legal to depict the character as most people picture him today.
There are a few Popeye cartoons that are already in the public domain, including all three two-reel color films. But for the most part, these films will remain under copyright for quite some time. 2028 will be the earliest that any of them not already there will go public domain.![]()

it's not gonna be a cable network, i think the person who said it is predicting Netflix launching a spinoff service with a separate server to handle live streaming sports to make sure Netflix don't crash.I don't think startup networks are working. Wish they’d had that for the Tyson-Jake Paul fight!it's not gonna be a cable network, i think the person who said it is predicting Netflix launching a spinoff service with a separate server to handle live streaming sports to make sure Netflix don't crash.
True and more companies will consider spinning off their Cable channels if and when the Comcast Spinoff deal with their cable channels like MSNBC and CNBC is approved and finalized.Maybe as far as predictions go:
"Sub" channels might go away (MTV2, for instance) and others will shut down
Some services will merge (Paramount, Peacock maybe)
More licensing will take place between streamers and cable networks
More live TV within streaming apps
Streaming libraries will downsize, but consolidate
I highly doubt that will ever happen. Here's another prediction:

Unlikely to happen. What I see instead is Netflix adding a section for "Sports" much like Peacock did for "WWE" when they took over that contract. Here's another prediction:
