Seacrest Wins NYE Ratings

I'm not surprised. It was the only one with tradition behind it.

Seth Meyers had better music, though it was playing in the background.

What tradition? Watch the ball drop with all the pomp and circumstance. Did ABC show all of that or talk over it.

Was Seth Meyers even on?

Well, they're supposed to. The other networks don't have a show that is broadcast every year.

Probably not something that was worth seeing but I wanted to see what they did. He pretended it was live and at midnight they did celebrate. It was mostly him getting drunk with celebrities as he played drinking games with them. Also a conversation with his mother. Not really anything anyone would care about. I sure did see a different side to him than I was used to. A lot of words had to be bleeped.

Actually, Nashville's Big Bash cut away to New York City for the ball drop, then resumed with country music from Nashville, celebrating the start of the New Year in the Central Time zone an hour later.

Versatile, affable. Omnipresent. He’s basically Dick Clark 2.0, with lots of the same work on- and off-camera.
And... he did not have to go through the payola scandals of the end of the 50's and first years of the 60's.

Good work on ABC's part to snag Carrie Underwood, Thomas Rhett, and Cody Johnson for the broadcast! They could have easily been on CBS instead, given that they are all country artists.

Where was I on New Year's Eve this year? Not in front of a TV! I drove 75 miles in-person, to watch the Idaho Potato Drop LIVE in downtown Boise!! The broadcast aired on KTVB-7 as it always does. Too bad Boise State choked themselves in the Fiesta Bowl. Had they won, the atmosphere would have rivaled Times Square. It was still a nice fireworks show (~ 5 min.) In fact, it was my first time ever going out on NYE. I had always spent it in front of the TV. Not this year 🎉🥳 I watched Times Square from a downtown bar. Very lively and safe on NYE. Usual drunks at the bars but a lot of families at the drop. Albeit I'm sure 2026 will have a lot more security given what happened in New Orleans.
Once I got back to the hotel room, I was able to catch the KING 5 Space Needle show on the laptop just in time (just before 1AM MT) - and it was a clear sky, all the fireworks could be seen! Even Jim Dever was amazed. The last couple of years have had terrible cloud cover in Seattle.P1130147.JPGP1130152.JPG

I was talking with mom over the phone after I got back to the hotel. She mostly watched Nashville on CBS (she's a big country fan), but because Carrie was on Rockin' Eve, she stayed there and watched the tape-delay drop at 11:59 PT...

Speaking of Dick Clark, when do they remove his name from "Dick Clark's New Years Rockin' Eve"? This year his name was in tiny type in the logo bug.

2025 will be Ryan Seacrest's 20th year hosting the show. Seems like a good time to make the change.

It's a contractual thing. It's still produced by Dick Clark Productions, even though the company has been sold several times since Dick died.

The company owns the trademark, and Ryan's contract for the show is with DCP. Ryan could probably buy the trademark from DCP.

Never unless they change the name of the show, because as TheBigA said while I was writing this post, Dick Clark Productions owns the trademark:

Owning the trademark and electing not to use it aren’t mutually exclusive. It’s thorny and fraught with issues, and likely not worth the all that it entails at this point or in the near future.
