The future of 95.9 The Fish

It puts a decent signal for a translator over west Columbus given it broadcasts off the WSYX Tower.

I get it just fine here in Pickerington. Same with 104.5, enough that it completely blots out Lancaster's WLOH translator even though I am halfway between the two signals.
I will approach this from a different perspective ... what happens to Cleveland Guardians games? Do they stay on 95.9 regardless of format? There aren't many destinations available, especially considering how much iHeart downplays sports in this market.

I doubt it @Rollo-Smokes, if for no other reason than they are already full of inventory as it is. I can't see 97.1 being interested in a steady diet of baseball games, especially when so many early and late in the season would be pre-empted for OSU, Blue Jackets or Browns games. 1460, maybe, but AM would have the same issue thanks to OSU men's and women's basketball, baseball and even the Browns if they are bumped off 97.1.

Good point Nathan. The Delmar stations are not averse to sports. 95.1 carries the Reds, although they can't be heard in the majority of the Columbus area. 96.7 used to carry OSU, Reds and the Jackets and their various stations still carry local high school football.
92.9 would give the Guardians a better signal than they have now for sure and it would be something of a fit with the format.

I have a client looking to buy or lease an AM OR FM TRANSLATOR for the Columbus market. Any suggestions?
Try calling Delmar about 1580 and the 92.9 twins. Based on the dealings they had with Randy Malloy they obviously were interested in selling or leasing the stations. Assuming your client pays their bills...

I would suspect if you're willing to pay Litton what he wants, and the check reliably clears the bank each month on time he'd likely consider leasing.

We are a few weeks out from the other Fish stations being turned over to K-Love. I noticed today that 95.9 The Fish Columbus has dropped The Fish branding and is now ID'ing as "95.9 FM Today's Christian Music"

I hear that "Today's Christian Music" will live on after 2/1 as it's been absorbed by the folks who run the syndicated CCM format "Christian FM" out of Florida. I would assume this is why 95.9 has "quietly" dropped "The Fish" branding. I suspect while Salem is exiting the CCM business 95.9 here in Columbus could possibly run as an affiliate of the Christian FM secondary "TCM" network after 2/1 until Salem figures what to do with that signal. Which would make sense why they quietly in the last few weeks changed the imaging to "95.9 FM Today's Christian Music" I noticed 95.9 hardly has any advertisers on it it runs mostly PSA type ads outside of the TCM Network ads.

That's new information and i am glad to hear there is a new operator of the network.

On the 95.9 change, I think The Fish and El Pez trademarks were part of the deal and went to K-Love, so that is probably the reason for the quiet rebrand. Agree 95.9's current format is probably not long for this world.

I can see that - I did not consider that could have been part of the sale - even though EMF/KLove, Inc has no use for those brandings.

Its' interesting - Friday's "voice tracks" on TCM were very generic - no mentions of goodbye and this weekend they ran the usual mix of voice tracks. I checked this morning and 95.9 TCM appears to be still running Kevin and Taylor breaks even though they are out of jobs as of 1/31 as they were based at 104.7 in Atlanta (and locally they did a live goodbye show in that market).

Well, it appears 95.9's days as the Guardians affiliate for Columbus are finished.
The team's listing of radio affiliates simply says "IHeart app: Columbs, OH - Stream for free WTAM 1100" (yes, complete with misspelling).
I can't say I'm surprised? If Salem is going to sell the translator or flip it to relay WRFD sometime soon, it wouldn't make much sense to commit to a full season of baseball games.

Salem just unloaded their Honolulu cluster to a local owner. So 95.9 will be their only music station of any kind.

And honestly the only thing Salem is doing is inserting local IDs - 95.9 "Today's Christian Music" airs the 24/7 syndicated format which is now owned by Christian FM out of Florida, so Salem isn't really programming a music station (themselves) just babysitting a computer in a closet running a network feed.
