What are some good station recommendations that still broadcast primarily Standards like KLBB?

It's a mix of Soft Oldies and Standards from what I heard. There's Apps for this kind of music, I'd prefer it be attached to an AM or FM (or DAB, I'm open to UK stations, thought I'm trying to stay as local as I can) station. This one's pretty low bitrate too. I can't really hear the effects of the HDC codec on HD1 or HD2 stations, HD3 you start hearing it, but almost the same HE-AAC on the internet? I can hear many more artifacts & compression than on HD1 or HD2 channels. Sounds better than WMIN 1010 though.

I'm surprised it's not fiber optic IP, but satellite would be more reliable that far north probably.

internet is fine and reliable in the big cities and suburbs but you cant distribute network programming over the internet that depends on hard times or timing will be off. theres nothing special whatsoever about KHAR, nothing. i can tune into an AM from mobridge, SD online with the same programming

Yeah, there are still rural & remote areas where all you can get is DSL, or even just Dial-up. I tend to forget that, I lived in Urban or Suburban areas all my life.

South Dakota IS more local than Alaska though. If it's the same programming & similar or higher bitrate, I'd choose the closer one. What is the Call Sign?

There has to be a difference where HDC over FM (I'd assume on AM, it's even more efficient, but that's pretty much dead, according to the other thread I started in the HD Radio thread) is more efficient than HE-AAC over IP, it's proprietary, we'll never know unless we get a job with Xperi under iBiquity subsidiary - but it'd be interesting to know for sure.

WNAM in Appleton, WI is another America's Best Music affiliate. They also stream.

I like KHAR's liner.. Music from the 'Past Frontier', obviously a play on Last Frontier.

EDIT: I meant for the stream, the SDR sounds fine, but it's still kinda inconvenient. I'm honestly more used to a simple radio or the iHeart/Audacy/KS95 apps.

The app or like, a traditional radio like I meant (well, it gets HD, so not totally "traditional")? (Simple Radio as an app is amazing, it carries the stations that aren't iHeart or Audacy, which is nice, not to mention the "Exclusively (Artist's Name)" Stations.)

I like that the ads are easy to dismiss, no waiting for a video to end. And I don't mind not having all the frills, bells and whistles, like recently played and so forth. Its like a simple radio tuner to dial around. And lots of station choices!

I just heard the man who runs this station. He just claimed the way they program the station is they put the names of songs in one hat and the artists in another hat and draw names out of the hats. Sometimes the result is a complete mess and sometimes it works. Well, that's his claim.

If you don't say "Alakazam!" when you pull the name out of the hat, it doesn't work.
