What happened on WHK?

The first hour of The Charlie Kirk show (Live) usually airs from 12:06 until 1:00 pm, followed at 1:00 pm by "The Dennis Prager Show" hosted by fill-in host Carl Jackson while Dennis heals from a fall.

Today, Friday 01/17/2025, when I tuned in sometime after noon, WHK had Carl Jackson hosting the Prager show on. At 1:00 pm, instead of the second hour of Prager's show, they re-ran the first hour which, under normal circumstances, would be what usually airs from 1:00 until 2:00 pm anyway.
From 2:00 until 3:00 p.m., WHK aired the second hour of "The Dennis Prager Show" which is how it usually plays out.

Sounds like somebody at WHK goofed up and aired Dennis Prager (Jackson) instead of Kirk at noon. They apparently caught their mistake and aired the full two hours of Dennis Prager (Jackson) in the normal delayed timeslot of 1-3 pm.

Someone probably miss programmed the Zetta Automation but It's also possible there was a technical reason why Salem Cleveland aired the other show instead. Hard to tell. Many things can cause such an issue.

It's been 2 months and apparently Prager is still paralyzed from the next down. I wonder what Salem will do if he is unable to return to a daily radio show? Maybe they give Charlie Kirk that timeslot? Or is their someone else?

My guess would be that Charlie Kirk gets the whole 3 hours live. I think that Charlie Kirk was brought on to build him up to take over that time slot when Dennis Prager retired anyway. Still, I've prayed for Dennis Prager's full recovery and return to the air waves.

As for what happened on WHK that day, there is a possibility that they may have had some major trouble with the feed from Charlie Kirk. The reason I guess this is because in the 3am hour the next day, they were airing an old Charlie Kirk show, one that mentioned that the inauguration of President-Elect Trump was 14 days away, when it was, actually, just a couple of days away.

i think, as ive said before, WHK gets more attention here from a few listeners who are also members of this website and members of this website who arent listeners, than they have total listeners over the air/online

I’ll agree that a few folks seem riveted to conservative talk that’s underpinned with religion. Not my cup of tea. But if that floats their boat so be it.

We have a few stations like that in my neck of the woods. The Catholic station seems to have various underwriters that are constant. The Salem stations have what I call affinity advertisers. Although the “list” seems to get smaller over time. I hear more and more promos vs paid content these days. And the local pay to play vanity programs seem to be thinning also.

The thing I don’t understand about these stations is especially around election time. Hosts talk all show about the conservative candidate. So I’ve noticed the spot load for those candidates seems to be decreasing. Nothing like a free on the house personal endorsement. So why expend the money? And the D side of the ticket would simply be yelling at people with their hands over their ears, so the dollars would be wasted.

Their ratings seem to be decent for a small AM station.

Another strange thing happened last night. After the 9:00 pm news, I was expecting to hear the last hour of Larry Elder. Technically, it's the first hour which normally airs at 6:00 pm,, but gets time-shifted to 9:00 pm. But instead, after a few minutes of silence, it was Charlie Kirk. And he continued apparently until midnight. I don't know if this was another goof up by WHK or if they are changing the daily schedule.

Yeah. I heard that too. Maybe the Larry Elder feed got messed up.

This evening, after the 10:00 pm news, instead of the time-delayed first hour of Hugh Hewitt, they aired an instrumental version of Hey Jude. Not sure who performed it, but it sounded really good. Then, at about 10:10 pm, Hugh Hewitt came on.

It's official, Dennis Prager will not be returning to Salem. Also, Salem's financial problems continue to mount....

I honestly wouldn't be surprised to see WHK air more and more paid programming during the weekdays especially if they're this hard up for cash.
