Eric Bushman out WBAP

I went to lunch with a sales person from Cumulus.

Apparently they said the company is having difficulty selling the format to a younger generation.

They said there's not enough geritol business owners wanting to pay for an older esqued programming.

They said more changes and money saving set to happen with the morning show.

they laughed there will be blood

Bushman posted on Instagram in September that he left on his own accord. Had nothing to do with sales or being laid off...

And other cuts happened since. So not sure what you're getting at here.

You're right. He did leave on his own accord.

Apparently he was being set for the next generation of WBAP but some people that be made a few changes and stopped it.

I agree with you 100 percent. He left on his own accord.

The problem with WBAP isn't strictly about sales, although it's related.

Right now WBAP is one of the lowest rated stations in Dallas. Lower than KEGL!

Also suffering from the same disease is KRLD, which has replaced a lot of its news blocks with conservative talk.

So I agree with the OP. Clearly the city of Dallas has lost interest in the talk format.

There’s nothing compelling on AM in DFW. FM has a large number of stations with everything the vast majority of people want. Only arguments for AM are a few Vietnamese and South Asian stations. The rest is figurative noise.

KTCK-FM/AM is #2 overall and KERA-FM #5. Throw in KRLD-FM and talk programming has a 13 share. The city of Dallas has lost interest in the talk programming provided by WBAP and KRLD might be a more accurate description.

It's all about revenue. That's all there is. Any dream of service to the community is a hot turd on a winter night, the hermit on the hill with their transmitter radio and the passengers from the TV show Manifest.

Spring is around the corner. When you least expect it, the old grass and weeds will be cleared out. The cobwebs blown out.

And what you think of a news format will be totally different.

You're going to hate it.

Probably a coincidence, but I find it interesting that the WBAP ratings tanked when they started simulcasting on FM. Does anyone know if ratings are around 1.1 throughout the day ( Holiday Ratings) or if they’re different in the morning?
No. Not a real surprise. They've been playing Titanic musical chairs with their ratings forever.

Today, we can see all the chairs.

To be somewhat fair, I wouldn’t use the 12+ public numbers as a judge on performance - quite simply, conservative talk is not a mass market format, but in a market the size of DFW, a niche format could still be pulling in a decent amount of listeners.

I am quite curious as to what WBAP is getting in the demo, though. Is it top 5? Top 10?

2.1 august 24 to 1.1 December 24.

Yes, a slow drop but seeing how the dollar spenders has breached the 40+ market to now include 16+(thank the parents who forgot to take the credit card off their kids' phones to send money to influencers) the age factor doesn't really matter.

There will be a change. How soon? I heard Spring and or late Summer. But let's see how the chairs get rearranged.

What would you call it's target demo? White men 55+? If that's what you're aiming for, they might be Top 10. Behind WRR.

They are definitely NOT Top 10 in 25-54:

Since they are on FM, they should be trying to attract and sell Men or Persons either 25-54 or 35+, IMO.

Whether or not that’s a winning strategy, I don’t know enough about the market to say.

How will all of this affect the overnight guys?
Corporate and sales haven't really looked at overnight board ops and anchor has being a money maker. Unfortunately, the networks have people to provide overnight news and traffic and weather is already contracted out.

Think I heart radio format.
