NYC Holiday Ratings

No big surprise. Lite FM is #1 again thanks to Christmas music. The big surprise is that WINS is tied for #2.

If you look at the streaming shares at the bottom, you see the growth of streaming radio in the last year. WFAN is the top streamer.

WCBS has fallen, but I think most of the drop is due to Christmas music on WLTW. They should return to the 5s next book.

I noticed in all of the markets there are several Audacy stations that typically combine their OTA and stream with Total Line Reporting that did not do so in the Holiday book. WCBS, WNEW, KRTH and WOGL are some notable examples.

Also WFAN. The reason typically has to do with percentage of simulcast with the stream. The minimum is 95%.

If you look here you can search to see which stations are participating in TLR and in what ways. Search those Audacy stations for both past months and future months and only Holiday 2025 does not have them combining the OTA and stream Simulcast Total Line Reporting

Looking at the demographic breakdown, while WINS is tied for #2 in the 6+ numbers, it's nowhere to be seen in the 25-54. So we can assume that most of the listeners are 55+
Yes...and that seems to be the problem they were hoping to improve by adding the FM simulcast and freshening up the sound.

And they may have improved it, which would account for the rise in share. Just not enough to get into the Top 5 25-54. Research Director only reports the Top 5.

WFUV 90.7, which is .8 in the New York ratings, has been gaining ground in the nearby Fairfield County, CT market. There the noncommercial AAA station is 2.1 in the overall ratings, good for #6, among the stations that are listed.
That's an example of how stations can have very different ratings in surrounding markets.

Metro Fairfield Market

Absolutely. A lot of it has to do with ethnic demographics of the two areas. Fairfield is over 50% white, while NYC is 30% white. That's a big difference when you're talking about a format that is 92% white.

WXPK is in Briarcliff Manor, which is closer to Fairfield County than the Bronx is. They're both AAA's, so I'm somewhat surprised they don't show up at all in Fairfield's ratings. You'd think they would feel more "local" than FUV. Maybe the non-commercial verses commercial character of the two stations is more important to listeners. (Or it could be the character of their respective music mixes, or they're not a Nielsen subscriber.)

They may not "buy" that book. WFUV appears because it's non-commercial. But WXPK is a commercial station, and they would have to buy that book in order to appear in the 6+ free report.

I don't recall hearing any advertisers from Fairfield County on WXPK. The lion's share are from Westchester County.
So there is probably little incentive for owner Pamal Broadcasting to subscribe to ratings for Fairfield. In addition, it's quite possible that WFUV is more easily received throughout Fairfield County (which is rather large), as it has a much stronger signal than WXPK. The 107.3 translators near Bridgeport and Danbury CT could also further limit WXPK's reach.

WPLJ (K-Love) has been steadily gaining in the ratings. From July '24 it has climbed from 1.4 to 1.8, 6+.
An article in InsideRadio points out it has the highest cume of any CCM station in the country. Of course this is the largest market. But it still appears to be quite an achievement, given that it's only been in the market for about 5 years. The article states that is less time than the other leading ones have been on the air.
