Plane Crash Philadelphia area coverage

Note there is an ongoing rescue operation at this time and all major Philadelphia News outlets are covering this crash so far. This comes a day after an unrelated Airplane Crash took place at Reagan National Airport in Washington DC.

Here's TV coverage from the scene.

WHYY and KYW have radio coverage of this incident.

They say a Learjet 55 crashed near Cottman Avenue by the Roosevelt Mall around 6:30 p.m. after departing from Northeast Philadelphia Airport. The plane, which had two people on board, was heading to Springfield-Branson National Airport in Missouri.

Fire officials are calling for a mass casualty response.

Videos posted online show a large fire at the end of a series of row homes in the area. Reports say a small plane disappeared off the radar shortly before reports of an explosion.

Here is Live Now on Fox running with WTXF's Fox 29 News Coverage for a national audience.

Learjet 55 heading for Branson. Another report said possibly 6 on board. Celebrities/VIPs? Someone wealthy, presumably.
Don't jump to conclusions that this has anything to do with Branson, a fading tourist attraction. Springfield is the cultural, educational and economic center of that part of Missouri, and the passengers could be business people, medical professionals heading for the regional hospital, even people involved with the university there. Not only "celebrities" or the ultra-rich charter Learjets.

Here is a Preliminary report on the plane in question.
Emergency crews are responding to an explosion in Northeast Philadelphia after a small medical jet crashed in the area of Roosevelt Boulevard and Cottman Avenue, Philadephia police confirmed to CBS News Philadelphia.

The plane, a Learjet 55, was going from Philadelphia to Springfield, Missouri, leaving the Northeast Philadelphia Airport when tragedy struck. The plane crashed into a neighborhood outside the Roosevelt Mall just moments after leaving the airstrip at around 6:07 p.m. The first call went out to officials at 6:12 p.m.

United States Secretary of Transportation Sean Duffy said there were six people onboard. According to emergency personnel on the scene, the six people were two doctors, two pilots, a patient and likely a family member of the patient.

It's unclear at this time if they were ejected or able to escape. There are several injuries reported on the ground, police added.

The Federal Aviation Administration and National Transportation Safety Board are investigating the crash. The NTSB will lead the investigation.

Here the witnesses on the scene initially reported this to 911 operators that a bomb went off in the neighborhood until it was revealed to be a Learjet 55 that crashed in the neighborhood.

More like a “dirty” delete. Why not stand behind your post? Luckily it was quoted so that there was context to this.

There was nothing dirty. I wondered if there could be high profile passengers on board before we knew it was a medevac flight. It was a question, not a conspiracy theory, but you guys seem to get off on making stuff up and levelling your personal attacks. I'm done responding to them.

You mentioned Celebrities, VIPs, and Wealthy individuals.
You seemed to imply the flight was "just rich folks taking a joyride". The planes identity was confirmed soon after the crash. Now, the investigation will begin to determine what happened...
