New FM Translator

How bad does this new signal kill KNTH 103.3?
It certainly kills it in Fort Bend County. However, K277DE isn't designed to cover that area anyway. But, it was cool to hear it, when I could not hear KNTH. K273DO begins to have a lot of static after crossing the beltway and the Southwest Freeway. By the time you get to Bissonnet, it is unlistenable.

wonder if this 103.3 could get closer to Houston .. Translators are not protected so not sure what else would keep them from moving in.

I don't believe they can. When KJOJ 103.3 was on, it could not move further north because of KLTN 102.9.
Back in the late 2000s, Univision and Clear Channel worked out a deal to reclassify KLTN from a Class C1 to a Class C0 station. This allowed KVJM to ditch their directional pattern in Bryan/College Station.

Not long after, Liberman pounced on the change and was awarded a Construction Permit to build a taller tower (albeit, much farther away) for KJOJ. The permit would have improved KJOJs reach in the southern part of Houston. But of course, that never happened.

Wasn’t KLTN previously a full Class C? A C0 is a better facility than a C1, the former being 100kw at 450 meters HAAT and the latter the same power at 300 meters.

It’s a Rehan Siddqi station. I only heard branding as “103.3 FM”. I caught it a week ago and they mentioned they’re also on 103.5 and they were bragging about their 50,000 watt AM station 1180 and how far it reaches. Even though that station hasn’t been that strong for awhile.

They’ve been simulcasting on both frequencies for a few months now.

It’s a 2kw STA from the KGOW night site. Not a bad signal, but no comparison to 50kw. Supposedly a permanent diplex at higher power and directional pattern is in the works.
