New from West Africa

I am a broadcaster from West Africa, Nigeria to be precise. Worked with numerous BBC affiliates in the region

Does your signal reach Senegal?
Keep in mind that private radio stations in nearly all of sub-Saharan Africa are FM, so they cover local cities; some are just in one city while others have relays or repeaters in the significant markets in their nation.

So, unless one of those FM stations is situated in a border town across from another country, being heard in other nations is unlikely.

You are spot on. In Nigeria the FCC equivalent only licenses Class A style FM stations. Plus the terrain is not really kind on FM out there

Tell us a little (or a lot if you wish) about the radio industry in Nigeria. I'd be fascinated to know more about it, as well as your personal experiences.

I was once asked to consult a new station in Namibia, and am sorry I did not accept. The travel time just would not allow me to do the project; I do not even know if t hey ever went on the air.

The most industry is all over the place. Only political affiliated people get granted licenses. Programming style is more BBC influenced and most stations run 24/7
