So the accident guys broadcast their info within Katy fm's call id every hour. My question is, is this a common occurrence a business within a call id broadcasting every hour or is it rare?

It is rather common to hear things like "From the Wilson Ford Studio, this is WSTQ, Standardville!". It's sold and adds a little money to the station income. It is no different than naming stadiums (stadia?) for a payment.

And this goes back to the era (1920s-60s) where radio stations had their studios and offices in hotels. The ID would often include "From the fabulous (name) hotel, this is (legal ID). It was airtime that lowered the cash outlay for the lease.

The only downside is clutter. This is an approximation, not a direct transcription, of WSM-FM in Nashville

From the Shane Company studios - now YOU have a friend in the jewelry business -
This is 95.5 Nash Icon - WSM-FM Nashville -
Powered by Nash, Country for Life, A cumulus station, find us on the iHeartRadio app

"Powered by Toyota of Laramie, this is Hits 106 KLMI Rock River, Laramie, a locally owned service of Wolf Creek Radio Broadcasting"

We've had the legal id with a sponsor in it several times in our 12 or 13 year history

And yet a jock saying something sincere from the heart — sounding and acting like a human — is considered "cluttered."

Freaking consultants just keep finding new creative ways to devalue all the FM sticks. Because $40 extra today is worth losing out on 40 listeners tomorrow.

Nobody's going to stop listening to a station because its top-of-the-hour ID includes a mention of a car dealership and/or the company that owns the station, especially since the song following it is always one of the week's top power tracks in the rotation. Nothing stop your index finger from poking another preset like the familiar opening chords or words of the most popular current song on the playlist.

"From HIGH above the Pasadena Hilton, KROQ Burbank and KROQ-FM Pasadena."
Still didn't cover the room service bills!
