Minnesota WMFG-FM 106.3/Hibbing requests call change

First reported by NorthPine that WMFG-FM 106.3/Hibbing has requested to change its calls to "KQDX" to match the station it simulcasts, KQDS-FM 94.9/Duluth.

I wonder if the call change is the only thing being done. When I've heard WMFG-FM, they've always sounded low, (Prisms into an Optimod-FM 8200) didn't have RDS, and didn't get out great. I wonder if they are possibly making equipment upgrades as well? I can't imagine the call sign change is the only thing being done over there.

It wasn't that long ago (well thirty years is awhile) when there were five local service programming AMs on the Mesabi Range, WMFG 1240, KOZY 1320 WEVE 1340 WHLB 1400 and WELY 1450. Polka, high school sports, lost and found, messages to campers. The graveyards were kicking, capiche?
