Several AMers in NYC run foreign language Music and some also have spoken word programming. 540, 620, 1380, 1480, and 1660 all cone to mind.Is anyone in NYC going listen to music on AM?
I know a few Mexicans with HD Radios who aren't going to turn off Don Cheto for BMF, even if WADO continues simulcasting on WXNY-HD2.Is anyone in NYC going listen to music on AM?
Those are AM only languages. There are choices in Spanish on FM.Several AMers in NYC run foreign language Music and some also have spoken word programming. 540, 620, 1380, 1480, and 1660 all cone to mind.
I see these kinds of posts and I go back to that episode of Bar Rescue where the guy insisted in running a sports bar in Downtown Sacramento. In a tourist destination. Where interest in sports is so low that the local sports station places around 20th in ratings (although it likely bills well for an AM station, as sports stations often do).missing..., active rock, alternative, standards, country and classic 50s, 60s 70s oldies.....more variety on this bland dial is the spice of life....I know all tried before but look at all the bottom feeders with the same particular format...
What's the relevance of a list of unmarketable (in the NY market) or outright obsolete music formats? Regional Mexican is something different, assuming that is what you are asking for...missing..., active rock, alternative, standards, country and classic 50s, 60s 70s oldies.....more variety on this bland dial is the spice of life....I know all tried before but look at all the bottom feeders with the same particular format...
And there is rising interest in Regional Mexican, not just in New York, but nationwide. It is a genre that may not get huge numbers in New York itself, but it pumps up the agency buys from sister stations as a flanker. This is why SBS is rumored to want 98.7, even if they can't actually get it.What's the relevance of a list of unmarketable (in the NY market) or outright obsolete music formats? Perhaps the thinking is that Regional Mexican will do better in this market than carrying a Spanish language sports network which is deep into soccer.Music on AM? In 2025? If it was in a language without FM stations, maybe.

WADO is 50 kw days and 5 kw nights aimed at the heart of New York City - so it's quite strong around the NYC metro. And there is rising interest in Regional Mexican, not just in New York, but nationwide. The problem with WADO as Regional Mexican, as it was with WQBU-FM, is the signal.
Let me rephrase this for Identnut — the quality of AM sounds terrible. It doesn't matter if WADO is running with a small signal or a large one, it's an AM. Hispanics won't listen to that.WADO is 50 kw days and 5 kw nights aimed at the heart of New York City - so it's quite strong around the NYC metro.
As has been mentioned before: SBS struggled to scape together $7.5M for its purchase of KROI in Houston. The sale closing was delayed for more than 14 months after FCC approval as SBS dribbled out payments.I know SBS isn't exactly the front runner to buy 98.7, but something tells me that MediaCo and Univision believe that's happening.
I don't think Raúl would be too pleased with SBS being purchased by MediaCo, but I wouldn't rule out the possibility of the two companies possibly merging. (Remember the scrapped SBS-HBC merger?)One other thing: I’ve been wondering if MediaCo might eventually buy or merge with SBS? Would give them decent clusters in some heavily Hispanic markets.
I read his post to be the usual..."There is some music that I personally like to listen to that isn't played on the radio where I am (for good reason) ...therefore there is a 'format hole' that absolutely needs to be filled right now, regardless of the commercial viability of the format."Country was tried, and i heard 94.7 billed pretty rancidly. 50s 60s and 70s.. whos going to listen to that? people in their grave.
you have suggested formats that have been done in NYC in the past and arent anymore for one reason.. commercial viability.
I hope you werent suggesting they try any of that on AM
