John Carlson retiring or something

On Feliks Banel’s FB

“ If you missed the announcement on this morning's radio show.....

I announced this morning that effective Friday, April 4th, I will be retiring from 570 KVI after more than 30 years broadcasting "The Commute with Carlson". Make no mistake, I love the job, the people I work with, as well as the station's profitability and influence throughout the region. And we are all healthy and happy at home.
The reason for my departure? I will soon be making a career change, which I can tell you more about on Friday when it becomes official. Until then, many thanks to all of you who have enjoyed the show over the years, including those of you who didn't always agree with me but listened to it anyway. It has been rewarding, fun, and a great way to interact with so many people over a surprisingly long time.”

Yes, Radio Insight is now reporting that Carlson will be hanging up his headphones and becoming president of a Bellevue reel estate company.

I'm beginning to think many Seattle talk radio listeners have poor hearing, or they'd never tolerate some of what they're hearing on area talk radio. Or maybe it's the PD that has bad ears.

Don't both stations have like a 0.6 share? Are they going to replace Carlson with Boze or something or go fully canned programming.

Two of his three known listeners are reportedly sad. The third is deaf
65,000 cume, so it's more than two listeners. 10K more than all-sports KJR-AM. Higher 6+ ratings in December than The Bull (not that that means anything).

Obviously a long ways away from KVI's conservative talk glory days, but they did come back up from the bottom, ratings wise.

Both conservative talkers together (leaving out unrated KOL) have about 120K listeners.

I listened to John Carlson's show yesterday morning for the first time in a long time. The show was chock full of spots for local businesses. I recognized the names of several businesses that advertised back in the mid to late 2010's when I used to listen more, as my ailing mother enjoyed the show.

They obviously are making some money, and whatever ratings they are indeed getting my be aiding that. Can't speak for the other shows during the rest of the day, however.
