92.1 off the air

Raúl Brindis seems to be relying more on hype than substance at this point. it may be time for him to consider retirement. His recent claims today on social media, suggesting that Univision was involved in the electrical disruptions, appear to be nothing more than a publicity stunt lol (not saying it was) he's just milking it.. . Without the strength of Univision behind him, competing against major players like Univision, Estrella Media, and other market stations will be a significant challenge. I’d be surprised if they last beyond a year on KROI. This entire fiasco just reminds me of Cucuy,Humberto Luna,Piolin,Pistolero and Don Francisco lol

Remember, Luna was a big name in LA for several decades, except for his move to middays at KWKW in the earlier 90's before going back with me at KTNQ.

Cucuy began doing mornings at KWIZ in Santa Ana in the early 90s and moved to KHJ in LA in 1994, again with me as his PD. He came to KSCA when Heftel bought it in 1997. He burnt out about 10 years later.

Don Francisco was a huge success from 1986 to 2015 in the US, and going back two decades more in Chile.

Pistolero had a chance to do a national show with HBC in the early 2000's after I heard him in Fresno. He ended up at WOJO and then burnt himself out for personal reasons.

Piolín had been the overly talkative overnight jock at KWIZ. When we fired the morning guy for, of all things, "showing it" in front of a school, I put the chatty Piolín on morning drive. He was great, but we found he had no papers and had to let him go. He fixed that, and we brought him back to KSCA later, moving the always annoying Renán to PM drive.

Renán had a fit when he was not given his own big studio, and he locked himself and his team in the studio. He called Perenchio a "dirty old man" and said that the local PD and myself "buggered each other" among other things... on the air until an engineer cut the studio off. He was escorted out of the buildings.

The nicest guy of the talents was Luna. He's the only one I'd enjoy going to dinner or having a "fría" with. And I have worked with all the morning hosts you mention.

The stations at Estrella will be the first to go,. They have nothing on the new KROI,.

Now in my opinion Raul reminds me of Squid Games on Netflix.

After such great success I never even bothered watching season 2.

Same thing can be said about Raul Brindis, me being an everyday listener found his show boring now. Just heard it for a few minutes and went back to listen to his replacements on the radio.

Aka Roula And Ryan show (with Erik )

I was amazed that songs are playing during the show, Raul was hellbent on not doing that, that it too much time from his show.

Note that the station scored a 2.4 in 6+ in January with the non-stop music. It did not affect KLTN at all.

I had the pleasure of tuning into El Show de Raúl Brindis on KROI FM Houston, and I must say what a nostalgic experience. The show remains a time capsule from the early 2000s, complete with the same jokes, the same script, and the same formulaic delivery. Innovation? Nonexistent. But the real cherry on top? The poor audio quality. "Allegedly, this is due to some sinister sabotage because, of course, the competition is so intimidated" that they resorted to cutting the transmitter wires lol. Sounds like a thrilling telenovela plot that only Brindis and La Regia believe.
On a more serious note, the show feels outdated, and even the music selection seems mismatched. Some have boldly claimed that Estrella Media is no match for KROI, but I wouldn’t be so quick to make that bet. The strategic combination of El Norte 107.9 and La Raza 98.5, catering to distinct audiences and backed by television, positions Estrella Media and Univision far more securely in the market.
Meanwhile, KROI stands alone in an industry where scale and synergy matter. That’s a precarious position, to say the least. If financial struggles arise, don’t be surprised if the station finds itself back on the market because surviving as an isolated player in this landscape is no small feat. LA LEY 92.1 NO MANDA EN HOUSTON lol....

Friendly reminder that it is MediaCo now running La Raza and El Norte, having purchased the intellectual property from Estrella Media about nine months ago. A full sale of the licenses to MediaCo is now in the approval process with the FCC.

Hello Radio Nueva Vida?🤣

Initial ratings for La Ley seem positive, so not holding my breath yet.

Also, SBS might be able to get money on concerts in the area. They are not merely in the radio business.

I'll play the part of devil's advocate here. SBS failed at operating a television facility in the market. They've also attempted, and failed, to sell off the Mega TV network. Suddenly, they are now expected to have this massive success with a standalone facility, not even covering the entire market reliably, and possessing a track record like that?

Puh-leeeze. @Astros2023 has this pretty well pegged. Raul Brindis will only carry them so far. They are up against the long-entrenched KLTN, and the Estrella duo of 98.5 and 107.9.

2 years on this current course, at best, from one guy's worthless opinion.

MEGA TV was catering to the wrong public here in Houston. As you saw the ratings KROI already passed KQQK by a little . But a little is more than not passing them. Give it time, LA RAZA with be ranked 4th regional music station.
KLTN #1
KROI #2
KQQK#3
La Raza #4

Mega TV seemed to be mostly infomercials, with some bottom tier programming in the late afternoon and evening hours. I’m not in the target demographic, but I always had the impression it was a very poor man’s answer to the big players.
the Estrella duo of 98.5 and 107.9.
All repeat after me: MediaCo. MediaCo. MediaCo. MediaCo. MediaCo. MediaCo. MediaCo.🧐

Estrella Media is currently only a shell company holding the licenses pending the full sale to, repeat after me, MediaCo.🤣

Raul Brindis y as talking about someone trying to break in to the tower again. And showed a video of someone backing up hard and breaking the gate open. But the guy drove away. Seemed like 2 persons in vehicle.
