Three Syndicated Conservative Talk Shows May End: Gorka, Bongino, Shapiro

And do you find their coverage impartial?

What's "impartial?" They report the news. They may have interviews with people who represent different points of view. But their hosts aren't advocating one side or the other. Talk shows tend to be advocacy platforms where the host says what he thinks. That's usually not impartial. People who listen to Bongino know what he thinks. He tells them very directly. The hosts of NPR shows don't do that. They also don't tell you to take impartial action, such as vote for this guy or believe this guy. They just present it.

I can tell you I don't think "All Things Considered" could be considered impartial.

And while I will say that I've heard many stories on NPR that aren't political- it's hard to deny there isn't a leftist slant to the network.

Depends what you call "leftist." Today, a lot of things that were once considered very agreeable to everyone have now been politicized.

But you're right, at least 75% of what you hear on NPR has nothing to do with politics. There are a lot of things that happen everyday that aren't political.

Conservative talk shows couldn't even accept who won the 2020 election. NPR has never questioned the 2024 election. The facts are the facts.

Jim Bohannon was not impartial:

Clark Howard still does a podcast:
He also does stories for Channel 2 on Atlanta. Based on the value of a house that he used for charity open house event back before covid he doesn't have to work.

The daily schedule at Westwood One/Cumulus has really taken a hit. As the year ended, the three one-hour talk shows in late afternoon have departed, Ben Shapiro, Michael Knowles and Matt Walsh. Apparently Westwood One is OK to leave that slot unfilled. Now Westwood One is losing Dan Bongino as well. My guess is someone will be chosen to replace Bongino. I doubt Westwood One would leave a six hour gap in afternoons.

Here's the Westwood One talk schedule as it stands now...

5 - 6 a.m.: America in the Morning (news magazine with John Trout)

9 a.m. - Noon: Chris Plante (from WMAL Washington)

Noon - 3 p.m.: Empty (Dan Bongino's last show will be March 14)

3 - 6 p.m.: Empty (formerly Ben Shapiro, Michael Knowles and Matt Walsh)

6 - 9 p.m.: Mark Levin

9 p.m. - 12 a.m.: Rich Valdes

1 - 5 a.m.: Red Eye Radio with Eric Harley & Gary McNamara (from WBAP Dallas)

.

Jim Rome was just recently switched to being a Westwood One show so this probably clears the decks to have Cumulus talk stations carry him from 3–6 p.m. Eastern.

If that's true, that would be a big departure for Cumulus Talk stations. Are there a handful of talk stations that do sports shows as well? Yes, a few. But most talk stations don't like to dilute their brand. They might interrupt the talk shows for a live sports event. But I'm not sure they'd want to run a national sports talk show for three hours in PM drive time each weekday.

I checked the websites of some of the Cumulus talk stations and outside syndicators have replaced Shapiro/Walsh/Knowles. Among them, Guy Benson and Charlie Kirk seems to have the most new afternoon clearances.

A few Cumulus talkers carried Rich Eisen (albeit in tape delay). So it's not unheard of.

In Lexington, Kentucky, a respectable market, Newsradio WLAP has carried "Kentucky Sports Radio" as a regular part of their daily schedule for years.

Sure. WLW Cincinnati and WWL New Orleans are also highly rated Talk stations with lots of sports shows across the schedule. But WLAP, WLW and WWL are running local sports shows, focused on hometown teams. Running a national show is different.
