Who will you replace Skype with?

With Skype shutting down Wednesday what service do you plan to switch to for your audio remotes? Cleanfeed was suggested else ware but it doesn't seem to be available on a Droid which is what we use on remotes.

Cleanfeed is great quality. They want you to use Chrome as your browser. We find zoom to be the most stable.

Are you doing this computer to computer i.e. one at the remote and one at the studio or are you using a cell phone at the remote end? Also, is there any way of Clean Feed answering on the receiving end without having to ACCEPT the call manually on the receiving that you know of? TIA

We use (free and open source) Linphone to connect to our Comrex and it has worked very well. Linphone is available for Apple, Windows, Linux and Android. Good quality audio and very stable. If your Comrex has a static IP, you can connect directly without having to set up a SIP account. It uses Opal. You can also connect to a PC running Linphone at the studio end.

As I understand it, Barix is now supporting Opal. SO you might be able to connect with Linphone to a Barix box, as well.

When there's a cellphone on remote end, I don't use cleanfeed. I use zoom.

There are other things to consider. Are you doing the remote for just a segment hit, maybe a half hour at the most or for a regular link to Talent for a 3-4 hour broadcast. Some segment guest do use Clean feed because they don't have a comrex or Tieline. We also have a few fill in host that use Luci Live Lite. Luci will connect to a Comrex unit. It cost under $30 last time I looked and its a lifetime license. Luci works well and is PC/Mac/IOS/Android.

Luci Live Lite

We like to use Comrex or Tieline for long remote connections and sports PbP.

Do you need video? For a segment or nailed up for 3-4 hours.

At our station we are using a system called HDV mixer for our video webcast (controls cameras, switching, encoding.) It has a function we have started using called "Air Link" which allows the remote person to use there PC or phone to send video and audio. The video can be used at the station as a split screen with the host for the video part and the audio goes to the Wheatstone board and treated as an audio codec with return channel for talkback. You just send the guest an email link. The station audio then gets sent HDV mixer for encoding with the video with little to no latency.

I'd suggest spending some money and looking at Comrex Bric Link. Very stable and easy to connect with their switchboard service ($100 one time fee). They now offer a free Gagl service that works with any laptop ($30/month with added phone inputs). I've spent countless hours with paid point-point VPN services using Barixs over the past years and the new Comrex boxes just always works first time no matter where I plug them in.

Yes, I should have mentioned Comrex in post #6 above. They're probably the most common units I see in the field. Thanks for the reminder.

Wednesday? I read May

If you can make cleanfeed work for you its the best option in terms of price and quality

Back in 2018 when i was VT for KLMI Laramie, WY from Pennsylvania, we were talking about a big festival that the station owner was volunteer coordinator and chairman of. I wanted to interview him to drum up some excitement.

Recorded it and aired it in my show later that day. Sounded like i was right in studio with him once I edited it out the slight pauses due to the internet delay

Now, with starlink and playout one pro.. i dont need anything else.. gone live from Alaska to Wyoming with a mic and a browser window. alot of small stations have been switching to POOne pro because it simplifies remotes so much
