Smallest DX Radio Ever

That little black thing in my hand is an “world band” radio as I call it… AM, FM, SW.

It’s using the si4732 chip and you control it using the knob.

Press in once select the band and portion of band you want.

Double press to change volume, audio bandwidth and a few other features.

$30 on AliExpress by searching "si4732 pocket radio"

Do you have a link to the Radio Paul?

Re read my original post, i mention how to find it... theres many many sellers of this on aliexpress. It's not got a particular brand name or model and no manufacturer name. Its copied by a ton of people. I think its also on ebay

That's a great picture!
Thats the Kuskokwim River behind me, looking east.. just around the bend out of sight is the tower for the local NDB VTR on 350khz

I see on Ali, But it has a screen on it

Does yours have a screen? I can't make it out

0125UTC Sat Mar 8 in west central Alaska with si4732 pocket radio, loop antenna, antenna tuner and preamp. RNA beams at 312 deg azimuth with 100kw, target area is the Northern Amazon forest region. I’m quite a ways away from that!

The smallest ever, legit DX radio. The "si4732 pocket radio" can be found on ebay and aliexpress for about $30. It fits in the palm of my hand with a little room left over.

The units power is all in the chip, its the same chip used in the ATS 20/25 iterations that have become so popular in the last few years.
I'm up in Alaska and the picture on the left is me listening to The Vocie Of Turkey on 9650khz via Emirler, Turkey with 250kw beamed to Western Europe. I figure It's just keeps going past it's target area and hits me on a 2nd or 3rd hop as i'm right in line relatively with its target area.. just much further west

The right hand picture is Radio Romania International in French via a transmitter in romania on 13720khz to West Africa. I wonder if that ones going south and coming back up over the pole

I use a big ass loop antenna, an antenna tuner and a preamp.

I'm impressed that it has not only a radio dial for old-times sake, but relatively precise signal strength meter and, it appears, variable bandwidth. With the chip doing everything, it was inevitable a radio this small would be produced. Next online buy, I'm in. (It's also on Amazon with various combinations of antennae.)

yeah.. but look who its shipped by on amazon. none of these radios on amazon are shipped by amazon!

aliexpress is a good bet and you can often find coupons, if you dont mind waiting for shipping fro mcanada.

How's the headphone volume? On Amazon at least one reviewer said it's really low.

It's possible he was using high impedance headphones, which I've learned -- through experience -- can be lower volume when compared to a set of decent $25 Sonys.

So just wondering, are you listening straight off the radio with those headphones?

The radio is feeding a digital recorder and im listening through that. The speaker itself isnt great.. what do you expect...... but i have no complaints

When you plug the headphones into the headphone jack on the radio, do you get decent volume though?

I've never plugged them directly into the radio

If you ever do, if you could let me know if the headphone volume directly from the radio is adequate, it would be much appreciated.

The radio looks interesting, and seems to be at a good price for the features, but noticeably low headphone volume would be a deal breaker for me.

To heck with the radio. That's a pretty sweet patch of chin hair you got going there, SRG. 😄👍

Here's another example of the radio, with a video I shot a few days ago

Cool vid. Looks like it was a nice (but cold) day. Are those vehicle tracks on the river, which I assume is frozen over?

Also, what is the device you're holding against the radio?

And did you update the software, as I've seen people say should be done with these radios to get the menus to work better?
