Audacy & Cumulus merger Scranton impact

If the rumors are true and Audacy and Cumulus are merging what will that mean for KRZ and its simulcast and Hot 97 and their simulcast? Anyone think Hot 97 will become Hip Hop? I could also see Seven Mountains buying stations in this deal. Let's hope KRZ and it's simulcast stays.

In my view it's way to early to begin speculating on format changes. What I learned from watching the Audacy merger with CBS is that it depends on which side ends up making the decisions. They won't necessarily be made in terms of which station is strongest. You would think that would be the way things would go. When Entercom/Audacy was faced with the choice between keeping one of two stations in the same format, such as sports station in Boston, they kept Entercom's WEEI and spun off CBS's WBZ-FM. Bad decision, in my opinion. Same with country station in Seattle. They changed the format of market leader CBS's KMPS and kept the weaker Entercom station in the format. On the other hand when Cumulus bought Citadel, they kept two competing country stations in Dallas. So it doesn't always go the way you expect.

97 BHT is now only on 97.1 and 95.7 and 93.7 are now simucasting Cat Country 96.1 out of the Lehigh Valley.

Well, It's been about 25 Years since this area has had a Country Music "Quad-Cast" ... Ironically, featuring one of the original channels involved with that: WWYY - 107.1 Belvedere - Carried Over From the days of Y-107 - Quadcast from NJ to Metro NYC and now back to its Quad-Cast roots (under different ownership) - Though all 4 are now different frequencies (instead of just all on 107.1 back then) What an astonishing accomplishment, and such an unintentional coincidence that no one probably even realized it ...

Or, Maybe, just like following in the footsteps of Y-107, Maybe They Can set the record - Maybe Try to Make It a "5-Cast" - if the Brand officially adds WPUR on 107.3 in Atlantic City - From Townsquare - Who recently shutdown their Monmouth/Ocean portion of Cat County ... But in addition to that, (potentially but perhaps unlikely) If Townsquare just decides to sell (1160/1310/96.7/104.1 in M/O & 107.3 in AC) - Then the Cat Country Brand could be on 6 or even 7 Total FM Stations !! (or 9 total channels if you include the 2 recently silenced AM signals on 1160/1310). Probably not gonna happen again as long as Thunder 106 is around in the Monmouth/Ocean area - unless that station ever / someday adds a "Tri-mulcast" frequency for Atlantic City.

Even Though its in adjacent markets - It does make sense to some extent - if they value the brand so much and wanna add as many channels as possible, to do so - as Nash FM & Thunder Country in NJ - and the "Froggy" in many parts of PA - have done decently as well - so far they're off to a great start.

What a Nice New Logo For Cat Country,
and its Combined Group of Frequencies, In the Poconos, Lehigh Valley & The Wyoming Valley...
4 Stations in/as one. đź“»

Way too much country in the area. This area needs hip hop…Alternative…Spanish Language CHR…
So…Loud, Fuzz, Ritmo and La Mega don’t count? (And before you say the latter two aren’t Spanish CHR, the format lines between it and tropical are very blurred and practically interchangeable right now because they sound very much alike.)

Or just stream those formats from another area. Your area has the formats that advertisers want to support. That's why they're there. Radio companies aren't in the free music distribution business. You want those format? Subscribe to a service and pay for it.
I'm not even in the area.

Magic sounds horrible at times. Voicetracks playing on top of each other. Sweepers playing in the wrong dayparts. A real mess.
