Within the past couple of days, 98.7’s RDS PTY has changed to “News”. Intentional or is their RDS just broken and this is bad timing?

Yeah…Audacy isn’t the best at RDS. Alt 103.7 for probably a couple years has had a static PS of “Alt FM”, even though they’ve never called themselves that. Now it’s blank. I think 107.5 still has a static PS, as well.

Adding FM obviously didn't help WBAP.
That's a reflection of the leadership at Cumulus Dallas. The content is what holds 'BAP down, not the 50,000 watt clear channel signal. Nobody in DFW cares that dialing up 820 requires a button push to the AM band, but there ain't no point when this is the content that the facility currently churns out.

The one thing they did do right was to wash their hands of the headache that is 93.3. They failed with everything they tried to program on it, so why not just saddle it up to 'BAP and let it coast?

I've noticed that the Cumulus stations in my area periodically air a spot for Bounty on their RDS. Periodically, "Brought to you by Bounty, The Quicker Picker Upper!", will show up on the display. Despite being in a small market, Cumulus handles RDS quite well here. It actually does display the song titles and artists as they play, though, as I mentioned, it scrolls the Bounty ad every few minutes. The other operator just shows the station positioners.

Have you noticed anything of the like on RDS in DFW?

Thats through Quu. Cumulus recently signed a companywide deal.

The same company behind the #1 station in Dallas???
Give the people a podium on which to stand and endlessly bitch about the latest mind-numbing, asinine move made by the Cowboys and/or Mavericks, and you'd be #1 in the Metroplex, instead.

Cumulus, Radio One, Audacy and iHeart all have ads on RDS and PAD, but here they seem to be mostly for injury attorneys. It makes sense since DFW is #1 in the nation for automobile fatalities.
Audacy FMs are in the process of moving to a new stick in Cedar Hill. CP was filed in February.
Thanks for the reminder. I was aware of this, but the move shouldn’t affect RDS and PAD info.

What made WBAP great was years and years of great management. Keri Korzeniewski née Littlefield was the GM there during the hey day of the John Hare years at ABC Radio. 820 was a cash generating machine. Then Farid Suleman and Citadel bought ABC Radio and everything turned into a cluster buck.

It can and will if they are on the aux because many aux sites just have bare minimum equipment. Aux sites can also affect power/coverage area as well.

In the instance of 103.7, I can tell when they’re on aux and they aren’t. RDS on the main is either malfunctioning or was changed to not include a PS.

98.7’s RDS seems to malfunction quite a bit, where the PS will get stuck or display unknown characters and the PTY changes to something that doesn’t match the format.

107.5’s PS is static (as was 103.7’s). 98.7 and 100.3 show Artist/Title info in the PS and 105.3 has a dynamic PS, as well. 105.3 HD3’s PAD still says, “CBS Sports”, almost a year into the rebranding to “Infinity Sports Network”. Another minor detail, but I would have also updated 103.7’s RDS and PAD to match their positioning statement. I don’t think you can blame all this on the tower changes. The sloppiness of RDS and PAD programming for Audacy will likely continue after the tower changes are completed.

That’s fair,

That’s fair,
I reread what I said and I apologize if I came off a bit brash or rude. I could’ve definitely replied in a bit more friendly way!

So, when 103.7 usually operates from their aux, the RDS PS says “KVIL” and the PTY is “Top 40”. The stations I’ve worked for had the RDS encoders in the server room at the stations. Not sure if that’s a typical set up or not, but that’s why I was thinking the missing PS is more of a malfunction, which is just coinciding with the tower moves. It was windy last week and I know there were some power outages, so I wonder if that messed with their encoders. Oh well, who knows?!

Anyways, I appreciate your posts and I hope you have a great weekend! 🙂
