yeah that really sucksIf I remember correctly, KVLL-FM had the only classic hits format in the area.
I would be remiss if I did not mention that this deletion brings an end to the former Woodville AM/FM combo. 1490 has been gone for a number of years now, and really, 94.7 was pretty handicapped as a move-in from the Rockland site. As noted, the tower is in south Angelina County, rendering it a rimshot to Nacogdoches. It needed a simulcast partner to ever stand a chance, and it wasn't given one.EDIT: I thought that KVLL had a tower between Lufkin and Nacogdoches instead of around Diboll, south of Lufkin. The 60 dB contour doesn’t reach Nacogdoches. I can see why Townsquare didn’t move KTBQ to 94.7, despite a little improvement in the signal in Lufkin.
Moving Q107 to 94.7 wouldn't have worked, nor am I surprised that 94.7 was surrendered. No one wanted it. Think about this. 98.7 was built new at Pollok, when the 94.7 signal could have been purchased. CSN chose to purchase the KLFK CP from ABoT instead of the fairly well established KVLL-FM. That tells you the value of 94.7. Very little. I hate to see a station lost, but knowing Lufkin-Nacogdoches pretty well, thinning the herd is not necessarily the worst thing.
I didn’t think of that. They could have put KSFA on 94.7 and move the translator into Nacogdoches to boost the signal. If Townsquare cancels KSFA, that would put an end to news/talk in the Lufkin-Nacogdoches market, in conservative East Texas of all places.I'm not sure KVLL was even being shopped around. If it was, I never heard of it. I get the feeling Townsquare just pulled the plug, maybe they saw the KLFK sale and decided it likely isn't worth their time and the entrance of a new competitor. They could have put KSFA on it. The AM is basically a daytime and the translator is horrible in both Nacogdoches and mostly MIA in Lufkin. 94.7 would have helped a lot. Why didn't didn't they do that? I wonder if KSFA should also be on death watch list or maybe there is more to the story and KVLL would have to move and it wasn't work the the cost or there was no other suitable tower available.
Many national group operators do not understand station coverage and only see markets. If there's nobody local to fight for a signal upgrade for a station, it doesn't happen especially with Townsquare.I'm not sure KVLL was even being shopped around. If it was, I never heard of it. Luf-Nac was managed by Ed Dulaney until he passed away last September. Not a clue who's minding the technical side of things now.I'm not privy to who works for Townsquare in Lufkin/Nacogdoches, but that cluster wouldn’t seem to require an on-staff engineer. If that's the case, any effort to redo or otherwise look at signals would likely cost extra at the agreed upon rate.
Ben Height is the engineer for the cluster, but he also covers multiple clustersPlus, where they can, most operators contract engineering services. Not only is it D'ed, but the gave the old Woodville station received a double D.Just wanted to bring this back up to ask what happened with this? I see that the stream in the website are very much active and the public files still shows the station is being licensed. The link that the first post refers to shows the application is being dismissed. Maybe it’s just poor research on my part.
If so, I'd imagine it's a little late to change their minds at Townsquare Lufkin.Maybe they didn’t actually mean to cancel the whole license?

No. It went off the air when the license was surrendered at the end of March. It, and the co-channel Brownsboro LP went away back to back. I am left with a frequency that yields nothing now, unless tropospheric conditions haul KAMX up here from Austin, and that's a pretty rare haul for KAMX. I've logged it exactly two times. It's gone for sure, but clearly there is a lot of miscommunication or disfunction at Townsquare.
I did just turn on the stream and "Fun 94-7" is indeed still going strong. How? Is anyone in Lufkin-Nacogdoches... is it still on the air too as a pirate?
Sure enough. The Public File is also still up. If you look in the Issues and Programs List folder they have Q1 for 2025 only and then a "Note_to_File_Silent_Station" uploaded on April 10th 2025 which states:
"Townsquare License, LLCCommunity of License – Wells, Texas Effective 3/9/2025, radio station KVLL-FM, Facility ID 68130, is licensed but silent."
Now that's peculiar.Interestingly, Townsquare filed to cancel the entire facility more than two weeks before that on March 25th, 2025 which was granted by the FCC two days later on the 27th.
Neither do they, apparently, and it's the back half of their name. If they can't figure it out, you and I stand no chance. It's off and has been. That's all I can offer.I don't know how to square all this...
