As I was flipping through my presets at home last night, I heard WKHR playing something by the Tijuana Brass. As I continued listening, I found out the host was playing the entire Whipped Cream album, apparently in tribute to Herb Alpert who is performing in Akron tonight. I was a bit surprised as they tend to shy away from playing anything outside of their normal big band/swing/jazz selections from the 30s-50s. Perhaps they are starting to expand their playlist a bit by adding more selections from the 60s and beyond.

I think it would be good for them to cherry pick songs from the 1960s and 1970s.

The old WRMR 850 did that and seemed to be successful.

I'm not sure how WKHR fund raising is going. Their listeners have been dying off over the years.

WKHR Was ... surprisingly a regular visitor via tropo, strong enough to light up RDS on my radio when I lived 135 miles away in Ridgway, PA. I had a real good Sony XDRF1HD, modified (xdrguy.com) and a 5 element yagi, up on a hill at 2100 feet in elevation

I like WKHR. They've come a long way since the 90s. They used to have that mish mosh format of Big Band/Blues and then Alternative for the students which was a trainwreck. Not sure who programmed that and thought it was a good idea. WKHR really serves a great niche for people to appreciate Big Band/Jazz and Swing.
