Milwaukee Radio Alliance

Rumors going on the Milwaukee reddit that WLUM and WLDB released all of its airstaff today. If true, very surprising given WLDB's ratings success recently and the recent addition of country to 107.3/100.3 but somehow not surprised with WLUM given Alternative's struggles recently. Is a sale in the cards, or will they move Froggy to a bigger signal? Is this leading to the dissolution of the Milwaukee Radio Alliance given Willie Davis passing away awhile ago and the other partner Bill Lynett getting up there in age and the rest of the family not seeing a future in radio? Here is the Reddit thread:

Update from Lance...thanks for the clarification/debunking. 19 years is a good run for Adler (especially at that cluster). Don't listen to alternative, but I wish him well.

They've actually had quite a bit of stability there. The current format is the longest one ever on that signal, and they were alt-rock in the 90s as New Rock 102.1. Then, they drifted to AAA, then various versions of rock, then slowly back to alt-rock (with a strange, ill-fated experiment with Bob and Tom), then a relaunch in 2005 as FM102.1. Much of the on-air staff has been there for well over a decade, even back to the relaunch (though their afternoon guy of 11 years passed away last year).

I hope FM102.1 and B93.3 (the new Froggy country station runs on two translators with a syndicated morning show and jocks from both stations) can continue to run with local air staffs. The IHM and Audacy stations are mostly voice tracked from other markets. Saga, however, is the best in the market at using local and live talent. WKLH recently reloaded the morning show after Dave retired (with the midday guy, also named Dave), hired an excellent new midday guy, and have the very entertaining Craig Carson in afternoons. The Hog and Jammin' 98.3 have good local air talent as well. Real Oldies is kind of an afterthought, but they do have at least a few local air shifts.

A complete afterthought is 1290. Still running some liners saying 100.3 and 107.3 Fonz FM which hasn't existed since last October. And one of the audio channels is missing since they dropped the translators so some of the 60's songs are only half of the music.

That's too bad. I suspect they will sell. Maybe as a packaged deal to EMF. 102.1 turns into K-Love, 93.3 turns into Air 1. They don't usually buy AM's, but maybe they turn 1290 and the translators into their CCM hip-hop format.

The 60s songs could also be either mono or "fake stereo" versions.

EMF already has 105.3 in the Milwaukee market that they purchased from Salem several years ago.

I agree - however, EMF has several different formats.

For example, EMF has three stations on six different frequencies in Minneapolis and four stations on five different frequencies in Chicago. There's definitely room for growth in Milwaukee.

They've had opportunities to scoop up a number of decent translators, and even signals, in the Milwaukee market. They didn't.

While there is no Air 1 feed in the area, there are already several types of Christian/Gospel programming heard on WMWK 88.1, WEMK 92.9/102.5/1460, WGLB 96.1/1560, WJOI 98.7/1340, WSJP 99.9/100.1/1640, WLVE 105.3, and WVCY 107.7.

I would say the only difference is that it's likely K-Love is 93.3 and Air 1 is on 102.1
Aren’t they already on 105.3 WLVE Mukwonago

I wonder what happens then with 105.3 will it remain K-LOVE with 93.3 simulcasting 105.3 or will they end up filling it up with a different feed

They keep it the same for a while. Maybe flip it to their CCM hip hop station, or their spanish language station. They could also lease it as well. But WLUM does not get the best coverage in the south west metro area, so they may just keep it as a simulcast.

How far away are you? I've gotten reception from WLUM way down I-43. Was just in East Troy last week, for example. And that's pretty much the edge of the metro area.
