Star 94 music adjustment

Listening today while out and about on errands, and Star is now back to "The Rhythm of Atlanta" positioner and has cut back on the rap product in favor of more 80s pop, such as "Neutron Dance" by the Pointer Sisters, "Everything She Wants" by Wham, and "Stay With Me Tonight" by Jeffrey Osborne.

I thought Star had gone too far urban and apparently that's whet they're getting back from the street, hence the tweak.

Makes sense. Atlanta Urban radio is very competitive. Not all Rap and Hip Hop are "female friendly" and Urban AC has tuff competitive too.

Star supposedly has a large female audience. My best guess they cater to folks that think 98.5 as too is dull.

Is Caller 10 still around? He was the expert on B98.5.

I guess somewhere someone had had success with two slogans or positioners. It really doesn't matter as much in a PPM market as it does in a diary market where recall is extremely important.

I listened yesterday for quite a while, and almost every song was a former CHR hit. And several of them were not what I associate with Rhythmic product. (Tears for Fears and A-ha are examples.) And no mention of the word “Rhythm,” only “Feel good throwbacks.”

The changes started prior to Emily Bolden being named Brand Manager. I haven’t noticed any changes instituted by her yet.

I like the change in music and find it interesting that the automated version of Star 94 got higher ratings in April than the personality version had in previous months. I much prefer personalities, and wonder whether budget constraints and April ratings improvement will preclude that from happening.
