Jay North, TV's Dennis the Menace, 73

Another amazing television star leaves us too early. Thanks for all the memories, Jay. Many kids and families grew up with you.
RIP and enjoy Heaven. Say hi to Herbert and Gloria for us.

I believe the reruns still air on either MeTV or Antenna TV.

Who else was watching Tom Synder’s Tomorrow Show the night North had an severe emotional breakdown on-air over the abuse he received while doing Dennis The Menace? After finding out what was going on behind the scenes, I’ve never been able to tolerate a rerun of the show since.

As for “Young Tarzan?” Can’t find a show with North listed by that name. Sure you don’t mean “Maya?” A movie with North that became a TV series.

I Guess Maybe they can easily upgrade it to be at least to within a "Standard" and not of "Subpar" Quality ... Or what would make it as Such ... As a Fully operatiaonal Unit ... Better Than What it is? Whats the criteria? ... I Guess ... "🇨🇳" isn't capable of a "Superior Quality" as a more Expensive or Domestic Product / Model ... ?? Here's a good example of that ... Recently Upgraded to/by local station ... WGYT 92.1 in Greer SC 📻

"Maya" was what I was thinking of.....Thanks!

This is single-handedly the most depressing death I have heard about all year. I too grew up on that show, thanks to Nickelodeon in the '80s.

Sadly, another child actor, Joey Vieira, who played Porky in the first version of Lassie, also just died, shortly after North. Jon Provost has been posting about both of them on his Facebook page (https://www.facebook.com/jon.provost.31/).

There is a tribute stream to Jay North on Youtube right now, showing the entire series in order. It has a 12 hour rewindable buffer, so you can basically pick whatever you want.

Didn’t Mr Wilson die during the run so his brother took over the role or am I missing something remembering the timeline.
When Joseph Kearns (George Wilson) died towards the end of season three, his “brother, John Wilson” (Gale Gordon) replaced him in the cast. The disappearance of the George Wilson character was never fullly explained, other than he was “away”. The “new” Mr. Wilson was a different character that essentially filled the same role in the overall storyline. Unfortunately that meant the first Mrs. Wilson (Sylvia Field, mentioned upthread) had to be written out of the show.

Can't edit my post above anymore, so posting the new stream URL. Appears it changes every few days, and one of those instances was not long after my prior post.

Gale Gordon looked more like the comic strip character anyway.

Just found this awesome pic.

"Mr. Wilson" is definitely in character!
Yes he was! Joseph Kearns played the role and he had quite a long list of previous broadcast experience in radio. He played many, many roles back in the days of old-time-radio. Sometimes he had funny roles and at other times he was dead serious in roles such as that of a murderer. Joseph was an observant Mormon and balked at a proposal where he was offered the host job of a radio program sponsored by a wine company but eventually did it. If you have never given a listen to some of the radio programs from that era, you might want to try and end up enjoying what our parents did! My favorites are "Yours Truly, Johnny Dollar" with Bob Bailey the 75 minute version; "Suspense", "The Whistler", "Gunsmoke", X Minus 1" and a one time radio drama called "Earth Abides". All great stuff!!!!
