Another Mistake with the KLUV calls?

Not sure if this is in the actually FCC databases or not, but Radio-Locator shows that there was a construction permit issued for 98.7 in Dallas on 2/10/2025 with the KLUV calls. I’m pretty sure this is a mistake or glitch.

It underreports stations switching to Christmas formats every year, and often never catches a format change of any kind. I guess it depends on user submissions for that data, which makes that authoritative-looking site about as trustworthy as Wikipedia.
Wouldn't surprise me if the majority of the databases running R-L date back to when it was an MIT student project 27–28 years ago.

Periodic reminder that FCCData.org is headed up by @Michi and is a far more advanced aggregator of FCC data.

I always thought Radio-Locator data was pulled from some sort of FCC database. The FCC doesn’t keep track of Christmas, format, website, streaming links data, so that’s why that is sometimes inaccurate.

With all the craziness going on with the government, I believe this was a mistake at the FCC. With Audacy consolidating their stations to 1 tower, it looks like the same CP was issued on the same date (2/10) for the KSPF calls. Looks like there was an update on 4/8 and I’m guessing Radio-Locator hasn’t reflected those changes yet.

Thanks and I’m aware, but I was using Radio-Locator last night to search out certiain stations and their proximity to me, considering there was very strong tropospheric ducting last night. I use a combination of Radio-Locator and Radio Land for DXing purposes. FCCData.org does have those features.

On a side note, 89.3 KSBJ and 90.1 KFPT’s HD were overtaking KNON and KERA in Grand Prairie about 7 miles from the tower farm, because of KNON and KERA’s lack of HD…

It appears that KLUV has been licensed to Dallas for most of its existence. Perhaps, the owners made a deal with K-Love Inc. to bring it back there. I can't imagine any advantage of keeping the calls in South Dakota if they're adequately renumerated.

As I understand it, EMF purchased the rights to KLUV at the time KLUV became KSPF. With acquiring KLTY, they have left those call letters for the time being. I haven't looked to see when KLUV is parked.

Ever since the FCC Switched from CDBS to the LMS, R-L hasnt had updated data for alot of thigns and there have been more mistakes. This is all on R-L and how they get info

I'll repeat this yet again... RADIO-LOCATOR IS NOT A TRUSTED SOURCE OF DATA. There's a reason they used to have a disclaimer "For entertainment purposes only"

Use @Michi's FCCData.org and FCC.Today or FCCInfo.com if you want accurate data displayed in form more appeasing than straight from the FCC's LMS.

We can say this over and over, and folks seem to go back there, well, over and over. My question is "who or what sustains the operation of Radio-Locator?" I see no ads, and doubt anyone buys their full paid service. Indeed, who owns that operation?

"Don't confide in Radio Locator" goes next to "Don't think 12+ ratings have value".

A nice person*, from whom my network-based business has purchased a subscription a few times when we needed to get past the 15-ish free views per day limit. Does it quickly meet our needs with a few clicks? Yes sir. *I'll let him self-identify if he wishes.
Can't you get the same information more accurately from Miche's site?

Fine print at the bottom of R-L reveals its ownership, and Google, it seems, unmasks the "nice person" behind the LLC. But why is it shown as "permanently closed"?

I’m a high level Google Local Guide, so I can switch it back to “open” if anyone wants me to. 😆

I’ll repeat this again…I was NOT USING FCCDATA.ORG BECAUSE IT DIDN’T HAVE THE FEATURES THAT I NEEDED. I was looking at something else and came across the “bad” information while doing so.

I’m sorry, I have NEVER seen the disclaimer you mentioned, nor posts on here saying that Radio-Locator is not a trusted source of data.

Last but not least, I have found a few mistakes on FCCData.org, and although it has a lot of useful information, it’s not as perfect as you think.

We're all trying to explain that you're more likely to find wrong data on Radio-Locator. It's meant to simply be a resource to find stations to listen to in an area as opposed to an FCC resource. That's why Silent stations are treated as if they do not exist. Nick Langan's "Radio Land" app does a much better job of presenting that data (and while the programming database he's using is off from time to time it is updated regularly and open to corrections).

FCCData is built completely on the FCC's LMS. Anything you see as a mistake is usually due to a poor data dump.

The purpose of my comment was not to knock you for using what you did, but to simply note why I and others (see David's comments) do not trust R-L as a data source since that was the point of this whole thread.
