Streamers prefer smart TVs for films, series

Those are the only kind of TVs you can buy today. Anything less is a video monitor.

I mean, I did once hook up a Roku to a 1970s Kmart portable B&W TV through an RF adapter. So yes, there are alternatives if push really came to shove. But......

You're better off going the monitor route these days anyhow. It's the only way to obtain professional quality, avoid those obnoxious smart TV menu interfaces, and shield yourself from constant data mining.
