WBZ Midday News

I listened to Dan Ray’s show Friday night and she announced she was moving to the daytime shift. Dan said he was sad to see her go. So am I, I liked her on the night shift but it was nice hearing her when I ran errands yesterday. Ben still seems to be in his normal shift. I have heard Shary filling Nicole’s old space.

Okay, thanks for this, but there was very, very little about Laurie Kirby’s abrupt departure - forced, I’d be willing to bet, given that this is iHeart we’re talking about.

That’s not to say that Nicole and Shari are not both fine newscasters and reporters.

But it seemed Laurie deserved better than a sudden departure, given her long service (since 1998, I believe).

It does seem that way if Laurie was not allowed to say good bye. Too bad, really. Dedicated service does not seem to be respected anymore. I wish her well. She is very talented and will find another harbor soon. Always easy to listen to and very credible. I hope Nicole continues to do well too. WBZ still has good talent despite owners.

I wondered about that, too. I heard her doing the top of the hour news on WATD this morning (Saturday). I didn’t know she left WBZ and thought —haven’t heard her for awhile. And of course Rob Hakala is the Program Director at WATD. And Laurie is his ex-wife. I thought—wow, that’s pretty cool. Glad his could work out.
