WGN interested in simulcasting some CHSN games

Then why didn't WGN just put CHSN on one of the DTs as I know it's on a channel I never heard of and since I don't live in Chi does it even seen over the air. As I always thought that CHSN needed the bigger TV stations to put it on the DTs even getting a handful of games on WGN doesn't really help the White Sox, Bulls, & Blackhawks in my opinion, ths has been an epic fail by the White Sox & Bulls owner Jerry.

Deja vu Sportsvision all over again, except for the home-built converter boxes and VCR tuners that could be adjusted to null out the sine wave "scrambling" system with little problem. Now they're transmitting on WJYS Channels 62.2 and 62.3, as well as channels in Rockford, South Bend, the Quad Cities, Indianapolis, and a few other regional markets, with no scrambling whatsoever AFAIK.

What would WGN bring to the table that those stations don't, other than familiarity?

WGN would bring a much wider audience in two ways. First, select games would be on 9.1 OTA, which doesn't require a college degree to get, as 62.2 and 62.3 sometimes seem to. (WJYS, remember, is the least powerful of the full-power stations in Chicago and more susceptible to co-channel interference from outlets in Madison, the Quad Cities, Indianapolis and Grand Rapids when a temperature inversion pops up. WGN is far more stout.) Second, they would thus be carried on Comcast as well as available on every other carrier in the market. Comcast carries WJYS 62.1 but none of its subcarrier channels.

Another thing is 62.1 is filled with payed programing and a hand full of religious shows when looking at a 24 hour daily schedule. Does not sound like a good station to promote sports on subchannels. As where WGN could promote the sports on all its newscasts. "You can watch tonights socks game on our subchannel." or right here on the main channel if the games in the afternoon as to not affect CW primetime.

Channel 62 has aired such programming since they first signed on in the late '80s or early '90s (I forget exactly when they first aired), along with home shopping. They also had a snowy picture in my then-home in Streamwood, and I had a large antenna that could provide decent reception of all Chicago, Rockford, and Milwaukee stations at the time. 62 was the weak-sister in the market. They did not transmit from downtown Chicago. IIRC, they transmitted from Tinley Park or somewhere near there.

"The socks?" :ROFLMAO:

Who know what they'll do if they get the contract. If they just air whatever CHSN gives them, then it won't make any difference. 9 or 62? Who cares? The days of radio dials and click-tuners on UHF are long gone. PSIP also turns "UHF" into "VHF" even if the transmitter is on UHF (which is better, anyway). Streaming eliminates channel numbers in any case, and that's the future.

The analog tower for 62 was indeed in Tinley Park, close to I-80 and the outdoor music theater there. The digital antenna is on Sears / Willis Tower, but slightly directional southwest to try to match the original analog contour.
