680 The Fan

I have never heard a radio station call "weed eater". Please educate us. I assume there is a joke somewhere. I could use a laugh.
680 sounds like a weed eater going full speed on my truck radio and on any radio I have in the house. It's all interference, especially at night, and it's totally unlistenable. It's a joke for a major market team that has been as successful as the Braves have the last 35 years.

"Sports Radio 680, The Weed Eater" :p

How does 750 or 640 sound?

I don't know where you live but can't you get 93.7.

Side note: Baseball on radio is just an old tradition. Tradition doesn't pay the bills. This could be the last radio contract for the Braves. Sooner or later a Baseball will go some form of webcast and keep all the advertising money.

Baseball team !!

Fat fingers and news reading in the past means sometimes my brain automatically corrects text.

750 is acceptable. 640 is about the same as 680.

93.7 isn't an option in Locust Grove.

With the largest number of radio stations on their baseball network of any MLB team, your town somehow managed to have limited coverage. You are close to Macon. The surprising part of this Macon's lack of sports talk radio. The best I can tell they have the Braves on 93.1a translator and a Fort Valley ESPN.

Your best bet is the 680 app.

Well, the contract just signed between the Braves and Dickey Broadcasting runs through the 2037 season so the team will be on radio for quite some time.

Good point. Note that the Angels owner is also the owner of the AM station carrying the play-by-play, KLAA/830.

Keep in mind, however, that the stations that carry the Dodgers and Angels, KLAC and KLAA, respectively, cover the entire market, but 680 in Atlanta loses Cobb County, home of Truist Park, at night.

Said Fort Valley station and translator are part of a network covering the entire market and other parts of South Georgia. The translator covers all of Macon.

And most of Gwinnett County, despite their 8-tower array being in Peachtree Corners, due to the null to protect Raleigh.

Does it cover Locust Grove where Mr Radio wants to listen? I have never been in Locust Grove but I have seen signs for exits on the Interstate that will take you there. I don't know if he is in the Atlanta market or the Macon market.

Back to Truist park. I was in the Cumberland Mall parking lot (diagonally across 285 from the ballpark) last summer, and decided to use the "scan" for some "lazy DXing" and my car radio stopped at both Dickey translators. The is good FM coverage of the Braves at the park. What percentage of Atlanta listens to FM only?

MLB has reversed course on local audio streaming rights in recent years (since 2020 or so).

They used to package the local teams rights together. In recent years, they’ve allowed radio flagship stations to stream in home markets and teams to sell the audio streaming rights outside the home markets.

Dickey Broadcasting owns the global streaming rights for the Braves.

It still doesn't have great coverage far outside Macon on 93.1. Streaming on the 680 The Fan app is a better choice. It's a shame the Braves aren't on 106.7 anymore – it had a monster signal that got well outside the core metro area.
