Decrease in national Saturday night programming?

I've noticed my local market doesn't carry programs like Most Requested Live or Open House Party anymore (they have a local mixshow Friday, but not Saturday.) Topeka's KKSW doesn't either. There's supposedly a new show called Limewire with Mason (from Radioinsight) but don't know of many stations that carry that. Are these shows fading?

Every Saturday, the CHR/Hot AC stations have to contend with either live sports on the radio or television, or people that go to "the actual club" to hear and dance to the same songs that get aired on "Open House Party 2: Electric Bougaloo"

I don't know how many stations Mason has, but he writes a column on current music for Radioinsight.

Yes, they are fading. Mixshows and all request shows are dealing with the decline of Radio and changes in culture. Listening habits, where people get their music, etc. Young people dont club and bar hop with the same frequency the generation before did (though they still do). Also if someone is at the club or a concert and wants to hear a song they heard they just go find it online.

Could radio try to compete with this? Absolutely! Will they? Nope. Too much effort and most modern programmers don't remember when it used to happen and how it was done anyway. But mostly its because there isn't the money there now.

Why bother.
