WCCR new Pope watch

AM 1260, "The Rock" is running EWTN's, basically, wall-to-wall coverage of the election of the new Pope for the Catholic Church. The broadcast is being done live from Rome. It's interesting to hear comments about the different Cardinals/candidates who may be the next Pope. They also talk about the chances each candidate has to become the next Pope. I heard them talking about what's going on with the crowds that have assembled for this momentous event and that included an interview with one visitor who is hoping she won't have to go home before the new Pope is announced. At one point on WCCR, there was an abrupt cut-off for local spots/announcements for a minute or so.

"AM 1260 The Rock"? Are we talking about an Active/Classic Rocker here? Running EWTN? And prayer programs?

I know it takes a miracle to run a music station on AM these days. But seriously.....

No, its a catholic station owned by St Peter The Rock Media

In Christianity, the "Rock" refers to both Simon Peter, one of Jesus' apostles, and to Jesus himself. Jesus renamed Simon Peter "Cephas" (Aramaic for "Rock") and "Peter" (Greek for "Rock"), implying that Simon would be a foundation for the church. Jesus also refers to himself as the "Rock

Well, at 3:00 p.m. Wednesday 05/07/2025, began airing a prayer program.

Ah, I see the problem.... from 11am onwards to 3, its all live off the satellite.. at 3pm, its a recorded program..... and no one thought to or wanted to manually tell the live feed to keep going after 3

Thanks for clearing that up. I've been confused about their branding for the last 10 years.

was listening yesterday at 2:00pm...dead air...two people talking (guess locally) not realizing mics are hot...dead air...piano fill music...go to national show...cut back to piano music...back to national show...not good

I heard that too. While it was not good, it didn't last too long. There's been lots of talk and information about the new Pope on WCCR (EWTN radio) including why he may have picked the name of Leo the 14th and his possible comparisons, including religious and philosophical ties, to Pope Leo I who is also known as Pope Leo The Great (Served: c. 400 – Nov. 10, 461), and Pope Leo The 13th (Served: Feb. 20, 1878 - July, 1903). Only 3 Popes have officially been bestowed with the title of "The Great" by The Catholic Church, Pope Leo I, Pope Gregory I, and Pope Nicholas I.

Sounded like an operator/routing issue at the network instead of a local issue. I remember hearing something mumbled through an intercom "can't hear the NOC"....before it cut to music
