WRCR Haverstraw is now carrying WABC radio

It's nice of Cats to allow the owners of WRCR to do this...makes me wonder if Cats, or his people took a look at WRCR, and that's how they got to know him??? Just a guess.

How far up river do you have to go before WABC is stifled by electrical noise? I suppose if all else fails, that would make WRCR useful as a WABC simulcast partner.

From 1987 to 2000, WRCR was WLIR. But unlike the current WLIR-FM, it never attempted to revive the Modern Rock format which made those call letters famous.

"Venerated institution" is a bit of a stretch.
Perhaps there will be alternative programming rather than a WABC simulcast...which seems rather pointless.
Late last year when Cats teased his plan to buy another station by the end of January, he said the idea was to make whatever station he acquired like a farm-team for future WABC talent. Seems like a fool’s errand.

At the time, he said his new purchase would be 50,000 watts. This station is only 10,000.

And 1000 at night. It's X-band. The day power covers less than 100 watts at AM 550.

If there was indeed a sales agreement, it seems to have been handled in a very secretive manner. As of now, the only indication I can find online that the station is changing hands is that previously mentioned article in a small publication.
Neither the buyer or seller have issued any public statements. And the website, last updated yesterday, still asserts that they are in the process of moving into another studio.

Id wager the move of the studio has to do with the sale for a few reasons.. maybe Cats didnt want or couldnt assume the lease on the current studio?

and for anything to be filed, it takes a few days to show up in the database. A day or two usually. and it can be filed days, a week after a public announcement

Would a studio even be necessary if it's just going to be a relay transmitter for WABC?

No, but these days a studio can be all contained on a desk in an insurance agents office, so it requries alot less space.... but it wouldnt hurt to have

I wonder if Red Apple could relocate the 1700 transmitter to the WABC site in Lodi. They have that short aux tower next to the big one. Not sure if that is feasible or permissible.
