Montana Anderson Broadcasting stations add streaming

Just noted a very welcome surprise last night - all of the Anderson FMs/AMs (KIBG, KXDR, KERR, etc.) have just added live streaming this past week!!! They had never streamed anything outside of HS sports before.
KXDR is a pretty good rock station, and I've mentioned several times how wide the classic hits playlist is at KIBG-100.7. Leans classic rock, but there are a lot of rarities in there as well, they just played "You're a Friend of Mine" by Jackson Browne and Clarence Clemons which only hit #18 in 1985!

KZXT "Z93.5" Eureka also streams now. It sounds like they are locally based soft rock/classic hits with a similarly large playlist to The Big 100. Eureka is right next to the Canadian border on 93, and I've never been up there (have been as far as Whitefish).

99.3 The River appears to be running a syndicated format... heard a generic jock just now with no station name mention

KQEZ is satellite, I believe Westwood One. They air Delilah at night, as of June 2024 when I was last in Montana.

Soon enough, I'll travel up that way. Probably a hike or two in that area that is worthy of travel. I've always wanted to go up to the very northwestern tip along the Yaak River and hike Northwest Peak. WITH bear spray. Grizzlies live there. šŸ»
If I make it back in June for my usual "Sanders County Saleing/Bitterroot 50 Mile" marathon of yard sales, another Bitterroot hike is planned, probably around Lake Como.

Big 100 also airs Steve Goddard's Seventies show on Sunday afternoons, and Throwback Nation Radio on weeknights.
 
Very cool! They are all up there. There are a few that share the same satellite networks and you can tell which ones. KQEZ and KQDE...KENR and KKMT. Also the AM streams are mono...which is fair. If they could use these clean mono streams to feed the transmitters. KLYT in Missoula, is only one channel. They're either feeding just the L or just the R to the transmitter, which sounds really hokey especially on oldies with wide separation. Same exact issue with KLYQ. KLYQ does do some music programming in the evening and on the weekends (American Top 40 Classics w/Casey Kasem). Tried emailing them about it a few times but got no response. Enjoying the streams, though

Over on The Big 100, the afternoon jock, Greg Jordan, mentioned that "our engineers are working on getting the mobile apps going" - so they are also adding that (and probably Alexa smart speaker capability) to their repertoire.

Today's oh wow's included "Wishing You Were Here" by Chicago, "Dance into the Light" by Phil Collins and I believe "Find a Way" by Amy Grant. Also "Save Me" by Fleetwood Mac - in my opinion, underrated! Yesterday I heard "Believe in Life" by Eric Clapton. Another underrated gem that you won't find on any AC or classic hits station outside of a very small town like Polson. Last summer on my road trip, I heard them spinning "Riding with the King" with Eric and B.B. King!! I loved that song so much that I have the CD now.
Very little to no R&B, except for Stevie Wonder and some mainstays. I haven't heard The Village People or Haddaway, and no Whitney Houston either.
The station is a gem and the 85KW gets out very well. They are perfectly listenable in south Missoula and Lolo.
 
Listened a little bit to KZXT "Z93" Eureka earlier. I think Anderson is sharing playlists (or close to it) between KIBG and KZXT. Similar, wide playlists, yet the sweepers say "lite hits". I did not hear any Michael Bolton, Madonna, Ed Sheeran, Katy Perry, etc. that would normally be on a soft AC station. It's definitely classic hits with a rock lean.

4 PSAs in a row, too. They can't even get advertising from the local Town Pump or the duty-free store in Roosville? How do they keep the lights on in that little town?

A Whitefish translator for Your Network of Praise blots it out in Lake and Flathead counties. Then KGGL's HD hash takes over. So KZXT's coverage area is just Eureka, Trego, Roosville, and *MAYBE* Elko and Grasmere BC. Not many people. More moose than people in some areas.
 
Makes me wonder if they have any sales staff outside of Polson. I've listened to KQEZ (99.3 The River) in Missoula (licensed to St. Regis) for quite a while now. It's in one of the biggest radio markets in the state and they still have 0 advertisers. I live in Hamilton and I listen to KLYQ from time to time and very few ads - again mostly PSAs although I think I've heard 1 or 2 regular ads. Same with KENR (again Missoula) - no ads.

I'm sure they have mandatory breaks they must take every hour so they have to fill them with something, which is usually PSA's with an occasional "Anderson Broadcasting" sales promo. Again kinda makes you wonder how they keep the lights on. Me thinks Polson is their "Cash Cow" - Real ads (such as on KERR and KIBG) - AND community involvement, which is what a radio station should be.

I know they still have someone here in Hamilton (probably leftover from when KLYQ was local) that does Hamilton High Sports so they may have a few ads there. Otherwise no local involvement at all.
 
From Hamilton, I can get weak signals from 92.3 and 100.7 Polson/Kalispell. Very, very weak KWOL-105.1 and a couple other Kalispell FMs. Was there last June for the 50 Mile Yard Sales! I also drove up into the Bitterroot forest and hiked to the top of St. Mary Peak. It was so windy up there. Constant gusting at the lookout.

Are those two pirate FMs still on the air? "Magic 99" 99.1 and "Cool 105" on 104.9? *NOT KWOL 105.1*

I bet a nice antenna brings occasional scatter signals from KMBI-107.9 and KMGI-102.5 now that those stations are gone. Lots of cruising altitude planes over the Bitterroot. Picked up Twin Falls and Idaho Falls FMs at valley level, also KPDA Mountain Home on 100.7.

Anyways, no I haven't heard Cool 105 and Magic 99 lately. I was surprised to see that KOPR 94.1 Butte comes in (clear at times) up and down Hwy 93. Even weak in Hamilton.

KIBG (Big 100.7) comes in better on the north end of the valley, but weakens as you go south. KQEZ comes in pretty good until you literally cross the Hamilton city limits. Then it just dies. (Hence Magic 99 can get through although not clear until the downtown area). I haven't sat on 107.9 long enough to see if anything is there since 107.9 the Drive (KHDV) went away.

Haven't been up to St. Mary's peak, but Blodgett and Mill Creek are two of our favorites here.

I'll be moving to Stevensville in about a month and up a bit onto the bench. Very curious to see what I can get up there. I'll be literally about a mile or two away from Reed Butte - where 97.9 KDXT 98.7 (KHKM - now "the beat of Montana") are located.

This station KIBG is great, I've been listening to it all afternoon while working. Some real forgotten classic hits, stuff I haven't heard in years. Whoever programs it really seems to like Bob Seger and Paul Simon!

One of the main reasons I take my yearly summer road trip to MT. They start coming in east of Thompson Falls on Hwy 200 and stay in throughout the 'Root. They are one of the best classic hits stations I've ever heard. A treat going up and down 200, I-90, and Hwy 93.
Their competitor, Kool 105 (KWOL) is a dime-a-dozen station with the same 400 songs. I wonder if some employees 'secretly' listen to their competitors?

So here's what I do. I go 'all out'. I start the Friday morning at the western end of Sanders County (Thursday night I always stay in Sandpoint) because Sanders County does their county-wide yard sale on the SAME weekend as the 50 Mile. So while the early deals are being made in Hamilton, I'm picking up antiques and collectibles in Heron, Noxon, and east. I usually make it into Thompson Falls around 11 or noon, and Plains around 2-3 in the afternoon.
I do it all again w/ the 50 Mile. Last year I stayed at an AirBnb in the Corvallis area. So I hit the sales in town, then went down to the Como Schoolhouse, Darby, and back up to Hamilton. The covered flea market in Victor is never-ending. I had no idea it was even there.

I have met the Moovin' On estate sale folks and they are so nice!

Usually I pull in KZMT 101.1 and a couple of other Helena FMs as well. KMBR and KAAR Butte make it in the right place. And some of the homes right along the Bitterroot crest will get a very weak KXLB 100.7 "XL Country" mixed with KIBG.
 
The latest "Big 100 Oh Wow's..." at least what I have heard in passing

- "When the Night Comes" by Joe Cocker, #11 on the charts in 1989
- "Brand New Key" by Melanie (Safka), 1971 hit... I had NEVER heard of her until this song was played recently
- "Answer in the Sky" by Elton John, #7 on AC charts in 2004 and did not chart on the Hot 100. Forgotten and lost Elton song from his Peachtree Road album.
- The 1992 remix of "Every Kinda People" by Robert Palmer...excellent song with the upbeat '90s sound...and underrated

Their playlist spans Beatles to the mid-2000s, as I have heard Kid Rock's "All Summer Long". Yes, they air the usuals, right now they are spinning "Summer of '69", a major-market staple, but they counter it beautifully with the "oh wow" hits. Anyone who complains about tight classic hits playlists should look at this station (and their sister station in Eureka MT) - and not look back ;)
