Smokey Robinson Legal Problems

Any word if Smokey’s channel or participation in it has taken place due to the accusations of sexual assault by his former housekeepers?

This is horrifying. Especially when you grew up listening to his music....

One accusation is enough to send him to prison for the remainder of his life. But four? Against defenseless migrant housekeeper women? It's over.

So who is paying who for the naming rights to the channel.
SiriusXM has always been tight-lipped on the provenance of its pay-for-play channels. Maybe the info is buried deep in some SEC filings. I assume the funding comes from the artists' label or concert promoter or, in the case of long-dead people who still have their names attached to channels (B.B. King, Tom Petty, Frank Sinatra, Elvis Presley), their estates.

It will be interesting to see if SXM "cancels" Smokey. When the Bill Cosby scandal exploded, SXM swiftly removed his comedy recordings from its Laugh USA family comedy channel, but allowed Jamie Foxx's "curated" African-American comedy channel, The Foxxhole, to keep playing them. But Cosby's name was never attached to any channel, so who knows what will happen now?

As of last night, Smokey's Soul Town was still status quo. The last I've heard was the initial report, and there was no statement from Robinson's lawyer. I have no idea what happens to the channel--I assume it becomes "the all-new Soul Town" or something.

And cancellation isn't forever, as SXM showed in its reaction to Morgan Wallen's "n-word" incident. Canceled for six months -- as he was on many terrestrial country stations -- then reinstated. And now he's got his own pop-up channel promoting his upcoming album! Money talks. (Of course, Wallen never faced legal charges for that incident. Cosby did for his transgressions, so don't expect to hear his stories on SXM again -- not even when he dies, which is when SXM can usually be depended on for a day of on-air recognition.)

So far, it's lawsuits and no criminal charges for Smokey. Should criminal charges occur, that'll be a new ballgame. Even on 60s Gold, removing any Robinson sung and written songs will leave a hole in the library. As it is, they have to avoid weeks where the Turtles were on the charts from their countdown show

Is Gary Glitter's "Rock and Roll" still played on '70s on 7? Are chart weeks that include the song omitted? Convicted. right?

No, I have heard "Rock and Roll Part II" on the AT40 reruns when it was on the chart. I can't say for sure about 70sOn7's regular rotation. We're also talking over 50 years ago as opposed to someone who could continuously be in the news.
