Buffalo March Ratings

Here's WHY I said it was an uptick: In the January and February trends, WBKV was pulling a 1.8 ....and in this book, it's a 2.2 . And yes, I know Star 102.5 pulled in more than twice those numbers. That said, considering its format now, it is STILL an increase even if what they play is not-and never will BE-my cup of tea.
In the ratings world, a 1.8 is a 2.2 is a 1.6 is a 2.0. Unless there is a multi-period trend, like 1.8 > 2.0 > 2.2 > 2.4 or similar, it is just a wobble that is inherent to a random probability sample such as the Nielsen diary system.

Which is fair. That said 102.5 hasn't appeared in Nielsen ever since it switched to K-Love, so we don't know how much it's wobbled.

Reality is that EMF is looking for a wider audience with that big signal than will show up in the Buffalo-Niagara Falls book. Like public radio, the real indicator is revenue. Perhaps they're buying the book so they can demonstrate their reach to underwriters.

My impression is that they do not depend on underwriters; instead they are directly listener supported for the most part

And SPEAKING of ratings: Cassiday Proctor(half of the morning team at WEDG)noted on social media today that "our little two person morning show got some great ratings news today". She didn't mention WHAT news it was, however; I'd have to guess that it's a top 5 finish in 12+ and some demos as well.

Maybe, maybe not.

I recall when a station in New York City was thrilled when their latest book showed them to be 15th in the "boxcar numbers".

They became the highest billing station in America. It was WFAN and they owned 25-54 men, but nothing else.

That could mean different things to different people. Chances are that Cass and Anthony did well in their target demo. Most importantly, they've kept the morning numbers strong even after Shredd and Ragan moved over to 97-Rock. That in itself is no mean feat. WEDG could easily have fallen prey to syndicated mornings in today's radio environment. Congrats to them for keeping WEDG relevant and local.

Is Buddy hinting that he's acquiring WHLD? All due respect to him, he's a unique force in the market, but an AM without a translator with a music format in 2025? That's one heavy lift to take on.
Well, Radioinsight just reported that he bought it.

Congrats, Buddy! Will you be giving us RD users any hints on what you’ll be doing with it?

I second the congrats to Buddy! No matter what he does with it, his out of the box thinking and hard work are the reasons he finds success.
