WGSF TOWER SITE DESTROYED

Saw a report today from the Owner of Radio Ambiente WGSF where they explained they have been victims of theft and that the tower site had been destroyed. Everything from the Copper to transmitter parts and even the AC unit has been taken apart. They had destroyed everything and cut off all the cables inside the transmitter house. These are hardworking people and what happened to them is crazy..

Source? I went through their website and Facebook page and didn't see anything describing vandalism/theft, or even being off the air. But it was in Spanish, and mi Español es no bueno.

What good would that have done ? They still would have had time to destroy the site
You (alarm service) call the police when you see trespassers. I have had to call the alarm service before I go in more than a couple of sites were you set off the motion detectors before you can get to the key pad . It should be posted no trespassing and the FCC site sign should have info about the seriousness of messing with a licensed sute.

One of my tenants has simply safe and her ex-husband is in jail right now after he kicked the door down trying to get some of his "stuff" when she was at work*. Usually a thief has been caught before so violation of probation usually costs more bail money.

They might of done some damage before they were arrested. It would take more than half hour so most likely the cops would have showed up At least you get some of your stuff back. Hopefully the scrap value of what was destroyed would cover the insurance deductible.

*I happened to have a piece of plywood to nail up that night. Lowe's had a door and frame and it was fixed next day.

I could be wrong, but I think I remember WGSF when it started in Arlington on 1210 AM back in the 80's. The towers were on Highway 70, just outside of town, going toward Mason.

It's a shame when simple precautions are not taken to secure a site. Security for a commercial radio station can be also free with a trade out with a local security company. There are systems that use the cellular network in case a cable is cut.

I wonder do the towers require lighting? I can't believe a station in a Top 100 market can be off for hours and station management didn't know.
