April 2025 Orlando 6+ PPM Shares

Another month in the books.

  • WMMO rises to # 1 on the 6+ numbers, up 7.1-9.1 and more than doubles its share from December. Add the stream and it's coming close to double digits. I would assume that the trending drops for both Magic and Sunny have been WMMO's gain.
  • Sunny is back up to 7.3 but is still a far cry from the 11 shares it was getting last year. A case where I would love to know whether the morning show is struggling post election or if they have alienated their audience in other dayparts while keeping the core morning show audience. I don't hear Sunny around town the way I once did.
  • Magic is all the way down to a 6.0, which is low for them.
  • XL trends down 7.3-8.8-6.7-5.7 - is this a case of losing a meter or two that may have been a major P1 or a bigger trend?
  • 102 Jamz has its first climb since launching last summer, finally breaking the pattern of constant drops, coming up 2.3-3.5 - has anything changed in their presentation?
  • 96.5 bounces from 1.5-3.6-2.9, another case where I'd love to see the numbers that actually matter and whether or not a swing this noticeable can be traced to a single meter.
  • 104.5 The Beat drops below a 1 share for the first time that I can remember.
  • Joy FM is a 0.4, a far cry from their sister station that just took # 1 in Tampa. I would love to know how Z 88.3 would be performing.
  • WXXL-HD2 bounces 0.3-0.6-0.2
  • I know cume "doesn't matter" but Magic is still the clear cume winner despite a noticeable drop in share. In fact, the Top 3 cume are all trending down on share, with Magic at # 1, XL at # 2 and Mix at # 3.

Interesting that the SBS station is last among the major players. Same in Tampa.
You'd think they have it on lock considering their long success in Puerto Rico.

Meanwhile Norsan's bread and butter is small markets and regional Mexican, Cox only has one Spanish station, and iHeart has no formal presence on the island, only a partnership with Uno Radio Group, which has no Latin CHR like Rumba (their CHR is strictly English-language music)

Congratulation to Arnulfo Ramirez VP programming for Norsan stations. The signal is very weak but already beating SBS and Cox (what a waste. Cox is probably the strongest signal in the market).

WKKA is definitely climbing. 6.0 share or higher for the past 3 months.

WXXL's relative decline is within it's normal range. One of the notably well-performing CHR's in a large market. With summer coming, perhaps they will rise again?

The Beat needs a bigger signal!

JAMZ may need to start sliding in currents with a healthy balance of throwbacks along with testing dayparts

We've been over this before. 103.1 signal is just fine for the measured market. "Signal strength" has nothing to do with the recent success with the target demographic. It's well programmed and listeners are responding. In 2025 with all the receiving options, you shouldn't ever use "signal" as an excuse for poor ratings. More often than not your programming sucks.

The only major difference that I hear on 102 Jamz the past month are the giveaways. As for the song selections, they seem to be zeroing in on early 2000s, but I still tune out when I hear something newer than 2005. Adding currents will not help keeping me listening, & 104.5 The Beat is trending down, so adding currents will probably bring the numbers further down.
I am curious for WONQ's numbers after a full book as "Party FM", but they don't subscribe. I'm sure that the spotty signals will have an impact on their numbers if they are encoding.

I do have a question that may need a new topic in this board... Do FM radio listeners tune in for music discovery anymore? Or do they just tune in to hear music they like & are already familiar with? When I get song requests via social media, they seem to always link a YouTube video. Most people I know discover music through digital forms nowadays, not FM radio. It used to be that we discovered music through listening to FM radio & MTV back in the day.

That question has to be stratified by age. In general, the older a person gets, the less they are interested in "music discovery". That is why mainstream AC stations play no currents or just a few songs that have already been well exposed.

There are differences based on ethnicity and core music tastes as to when people stop being deeply interested in the newest songs.

Personally, I can recall going to a record store regularly when I was a pre-teen in the 50's to ask if there was a new Buddy Holly release. I know from my daughters' social media posts that, now that all are in their 40's and beyond, any reference to music and artists involves what they liked in their teens and earlier 20's.

The issue is not where discovery takes place, but at what age or stage in life people relegate "new music" to a less important aspect of life and put most of their interest into family, friendships, their job and things like hobbies and sports.

With Cox's recent spins, I don't think Norsan would mind buying WOEX to upgrade Kaliente to 96.5, place Suave on WFYY and add Poder to W288CJ.
