The issues with WBD lay with the D. What valuable content does the Discovery side have. They don’t have sports or any worthy streaming content.
AOL was also running Time Warner and we all know how that turned out. The only thing holding the current company together is HBO Max and the HBO content.Keep in mind that Discovery bought Warner, not the other way around. At the time, Discovery was a cash machine. The Discovery Networks were profitable on cable. They had a pretty good business model. Now maybe not so much. But conceptually, their channels are a lot better defined than the Warner or Turner channels at this point. What some of us expected from this merger was for Discovery to better define the TBS channels. That hasn't happened. Instead the combined company has been burdened from the debt of the merger. But Discovery is running the company, not Warner.

“Here’s my feeling, all right, David Zaslav runs Warner Brothers Discovery. He’s done the first thing absolutely right. He has made that balance sheet to be palatable. Now he just has to break out of the hell that is Linear and be thinking about all the new exciting things that could be done. I want you to stay long on those couple hundred. I would even be tempted, dare I say…. I would actually buy the stock. That’s right. I would buy Warner Brothers Discovery. I’m willing to stick my head out and see what happens.”
Discovery got top heavy when they first bought the Hurst channels. Adding the Turner Networks never seemed to really fit.Right, and Entercom was successful until they bought CBS Radio, and Cumulus was successful until it bought Citadel. On and on.
Here's what Jim Cramer says now about Zaslav:
So spinning off cable seems like the right thing to do, then see what happens next.
ID seems to be holding up pretty well (Quiet on Set) and a few shows like 90 Day Fiance and Sister Wives (whatever that is) I see are in the top 10 on Max.The issues with WBD lay with the D. What valuable content does the Discovery side have. They don’t have sports or any worthy streaming content.
The reality shows are just cheap throwaways. There is no real content there. People are not buying Max for the reality shows.ID seems to be holding up pretty well (Quiet on Set) and a few shows like 90 Day Fiance and Sister Wives (whatever that is) I see are in the top 10 on Max.

Says who?The Turner nets are a sinking ship.
People watch them, though, wouldn't make the top 10 if they didn't. Right now on my Max profile 4/10 of the top 10 come from Discovery. The reality shows are just cheap throwaways. There is no real content there. People are not buying Max for the reality shows.
Says the ratings, but all of cable is in the same ship.Says who?
All of the superhero movies need to win big.A lot depends on the success of Superman when it comes out in July. They've already started the pre-release hype. It has to be a winner.
