Montgomery WPHH 93.5 move to 106.5

It appears WPHH 93.5 Hope Hull is set to move to its new frequency of 106.5, if it hasn't already done so; this was filed at the FCC today, 5/29. This bears out with a Joy FM facebook post from a couple of weeks ago informing listeners about the change of frequency taking place on or around 5/30.

FCCData.org has them moved if I am reading correctly

IMHO this is an improvement signal wise.

certainly a stronger signal, but now that end of the dial is getting crowded between 102.7 the river, 104.3 hallelujah and Klove on 107.9

93.5 is 4400 watts at 381 feet from a tower in central montgomery, 106.5 will be 3400 watts at 440 feet from a tower south of city

Actually the new spot will be at WCOV TV, in West Montgomery. The River is at 101.5 FM and 102.7 FM is occupied by a rebroadcast of WALQ 1130 AM Carrville/Tallassee, which does Regional Mexican.

That spot will now be silent till the next auction, since it was licensed as a full powered FM.

Given the number of urban, pop, country and gospel stations already in the river region, i wouldn't be suprised to see either Iheart or EMF snag it.

montgomery could certainly use a 4th or 6th Urban format of some type, since it is the most under served format ....../sarcasm

Even so, an applicant could request to place a translator on the channel in the interim, if they could find one eligible to move to Montgomery as a minor change.

The next FM broadcast auction hasn't been announced yet, but probably will be held next year. A translator could operate until the day the new license was ready to sign on, which could be up to 3 years after the auction is closed.

3 LPFM's could take advantage of this

WHOH-LP currently has a CP for 90.3

WEIT-LP has a CP for 102.9

and WTLS has a translator CP for 101.1
WTLS might be the more obvious choice as the other two seem to be tax right off's for a pair of churches connected to the owner of WKEM-LP kiss 98.5

Not too sure about doing a LPFM at 93.5. Someone with more experience may can help you. I do know that when the auction takes place, the winner will have the same coverage as the old WPHH had, unless they were able to relocate it, from Hope Hull.

One issue, if someone does get this allotment, at the next auction, and gets it back on, said examples would have to relocate to another spot and I know that the FM dial is very crowded in Montgomery.

it wouldn't need to serve the entire city, i don't see what would stop anyone from running a format that would cater strictly to the Hyundai Plant and nearby son to be opened Meta datacenters.

or with coverage area of rural montgomery county and parts of lowndes/crenshaw county? bump up to 100 watts?

B.T.W. Urban is the top biller in Montgomery. That's why so many are doing it. The new LPFM stations are going to bring more Urban/Soul Gospel, to the city, once they sign on. My hometown and the West Central Alabama landscape, has mostly Urban, because it's a top biller here. I play some Soul/Urban Gospel, because I know what works and want to have great success with Jesus Radio.

P.S. One of the fastest growing groups in Montgomery is the Spanish/Latino crowd. It makes perfect sense for them to have two voices for their listening pleasure.

Also, just about everything that could work in Montgomery is already covered.

Respectfully, while Urban and Gospel formats absolutely have strong roots and historical success in Montgomery and West Central Alabama, it’s a mistake to assume that format success equals format saturation. Just because Urban is the top biller now doesn’t mean there’s no room — or demand — for variety.

There’s room in the market for Jesus Radio and Classic Rock. For Soul Gospel and Alternative. If every Station in the area jumps on the same Urban/Gospel bandwagon, you’re not serving the community — you’re replicating a commercial model that already exists. That’s not innovation. That’s inertia.

are you sure?

What station is or was AAA/Folk?

Blues other than for an hour or two on WVAS

Oldies? Not since WQLD flipped to Urban Gospel!

Montgomery's biggest problem is oversaturation and little to no talent.

Look at Y102....at one time was legendary for the staff.
