Finally, E-skip in Idaho - and a translator too! 6/4/2025

Some very nice morning skip today allowed me to see what that Stellar Labs 4-element could really do (plus the DP-666 / TEF6686). Everything new, of course, to Cascade logs, some have been heard in WA. MUF today was up to 102.5 and may have gotten up to 104.9 for a few seconds.

All logs heard between 9:45 and 10:10AM MT. In order:

88.5 KJNW Kansas City; with Elevation Worship "Rattle!" // Life 88.5 stream. 100KW at 1168 miles
93.7 KAIR-FM Horton, KS; with Hot Country 93.7 Weatherology weather forecast. 25KW at 1112 miles
89.3 KCUR Kansas City; with 1A and RDS, took picture. 100KW at 1168 miles (Heard before in WA)
96.3 KZCH Derby, KS; top 40 music and RDS "KZCH" PI 523F. 50KW at 1078 miles (Heard before in WA)
97.1 KBOB-FM Haven, KS; Heart song, RDS PI 1411. 18.5KW at 1066 miles
93.9 K230BP Hutchinson, KS; K-LOVE ID while Wichita stations were in. This and another translator in WV are the ONLY K-LOVE stations on 93.9. 160 watts at 1036 miles!!
92.1 KTBT Broken Arrow, OK; ID '92.1 the Beat' and RDS. 27KW at 1199 miles
92.7 KWME Wellington, KS; RDS match, George Michael "Father Figure." 50KW at 1086 miles (Heard before in WA)
92.5 KSYN Joplin, MO; RDS and ID "Kissin' 92-5". 100KW at 1229 miles
91.3 KAKO Ada, OK; local ID and AFR mention. 100KW at 1195 miles
92.3 KKGQ Newton, KS; wiped out nearby KIZN!!; with RDS hit 2B14. 100KW at 1064 miles (Heard before in WA)
91.3 KBIA Columbia, MO; TOH ID heard mixing with KAKO. 100KW at 1281 miles
93.9 KJMK Webb City, MO; RDS and station ID mixed with aircraft scatter from KZBQ Pocatello. 48KW at 1227 miles
90.5 KXCV Maryville, MO; weather conditions for Maryville and Clarinda IA. 100KW at 1112 miles.
88.9 KPRD Hays, KS; RDS and ID, support mention for Lewis Baptist Church (Lewis, Kansas). 83KW at 975 miles.
Weakened after that and I had to go back to work. But it was a lot of fun.

Have another UNID on 95.3 with a State Farm local agent mentioned, will check the recording again. Tons of mixing all over the band, country on 102.5 (maybe Joplin), unids on 99.3 and 99.7, 98.5, CCM on 92.7 (KZUH KS maybe?), 92.9 with Tom Petty (probably KRQV Tulsa), 94.1 over KBXL, etc etc. Hopefully many more openings to come!

Totals now at 239 FMs from Cascade.

99.7 could have been KZPT Kansas City, 100kW
 
Probably was KC. I heard talk on 96.5 (probably sports KFNZ) and talk on 98.1 (probably KMBZ) but they were fading and no RDS hits.
It looks like KCMO 95.7 does not transmit in HD, radiofan2023! So next time the band opens up to Idaho/Montana, try 95.5 for my McCall local (KUJJ, Star FM, 2.1KW). Ogden UT (BBN) and Butte MT (rocker) might also be possible in skip towards my direction.

I don't do FM dxing.
 
My best ever log distance was KMCJ 99.5 from Colstrip, MT from Ridgway, PA in the middle of December.

In terms of power, my best log was 100 Watts at 50 feet on 95.7 from DAvis, CA.. an LPFM. while in Laramie, WY

my 3rd best log was a rapid city translator.. 250 watts at some crazy height from Ridgway, PA one summer.. and whats funny is, its parent station just 2 or 3 clicks down the dial about 10 -15 miles away with 100kw was nowhere to be heard

Probably 99.7 Hank FM - KGHF - Belle Plaine KS 🌻 South of Wichita. (It's on the same tower as 92.7 KWME near US Highway 81) ... I've been very close to their site as I have a friend that lives nearby in Wellington KS.

99.3 could be KLOR - a Great Classic Hits station nearby in Ponca City, OK.

Now attached are some pictures of RDS captures. The new "DP-666" version of the TEF is so sensitive on RDS and signal strength...it is better than my old silver unit.

The DP666 and silver units use the same chip..... there is no, in theory, performance conditions....ive used more than half a dozen TEF Variants and never noticed a difference
