KRLD Storm Coverage

Despite all the cutbacks and questionable moves at Audacy, kudos are in order to KRLD for their storm coverage Sunday night. The PM drive news team and the staff meteorologist were all on the air live for at least 4 hours with continuous coverage as the storms hit DFW. Meanwhile, the other AM talkers just continued to serve up their usual menu of screaming **** and financial fraudsters.
I can't image KRLD has much of a cume that late on a Sunday evening, so it's impressive that that put forth that strong of an effort.

it's pretty sad when Cumulus is running things badly with 820 AM/93.3 AM and just not bothering with severe weather that had a moderate risk of severe weather, i bet Cumulus is ruining WBAP with budget cuts and being asleep at the wheel and they have Brad Braton and being the primary Emergency Alert System station. this was a day they should had been on "Operation: Storm Watch" mode with wall to wall coverage of the outbreak.

WBAP is also the state primary for Oklahoma now that WKY has reduced its nighttime power, BTW.

Don't know how it did with actually sounding EAS alerts, but it's a shame if it was asleep at the switch. There's little doubt WBAP has saved lives before, and that includes the Cumulus era, such as when that tornado went through Farmers Branch a few years ago.

Considering that WBAP is down to a 1.5 share on what has historically been a pretty successful station for many decades, I'd say it is more than fair to conclude that Cumulus is not running that station well.

And, if anything, it’s down after adding an FM signal. Seems like it had a similar result when it added 96.7.

I thought KRMG 740 Tulsa was the PEP station for Oklahoma, not WBAP?

Oklahoma is notoriously bad about keeping a public listing of the EAS plan available. Last I'd heard, it switched to WBAP after WKY lowered its nighttime power, but that could have been an outdated plan. The site on the state website is almost 25 years old, and it has been updated since that plan was released.

KRLD is doing continuing coverage of the US bombing Iran tonight. They are simulcasting CBS News 24 7 and NewsNation coverage a long with some from the BBC. I have been listening for the last hour 12-1 am. Normally at this time they are re-airing a Dave Ramsee episode.
