I just heard this on Pat St. John's show on Sirius XM 60s Gold. Still looking for a news story. His Wikipedia page list his death as yesterday, Jun. 17.

Update: Apparently there was an internet death hoax. I posted the story since I heard it on Pat. St. John who said the family confirmed it. I consider him a reliable source.

That's sad, I guess things go in threes. Sly Stone and Brian Wilson were also 82. On a brighter note Paul McCartney turned 83 today so there's that.
 
When a mainstream entertainer passes away, the national media will report it as soon as confirmation is received. Lou Christie is well-known and respected among oldies music enthusiasts but is almost unknown to the general public. In this case, a family member informed a friend, who then reported it on Facebook. It took a while for the news to be confirmed.
 
People just notice upon the third because two is a coincidence and one more creates the appearance of a persistent pattern. And everybody just loves the combination of death and persistence, right?

Yes, which means "they come in threes" is based on which one you noticed first. If I notice two before you notice one, we will have different perceptions of which three are "in a row".

Which is why I refuse to look at it that way. Avoids arguments.
 
"Lightnin' Strikes" was on this commercial for an album of bubble gum music called "Super Bubble". I like the cute backup singers.

Standards KTUC Tucson played the same songs over and over and this was one of them.

Not surprised. It's easily the first song I would think of if asked to list his hits.
 
For whatever reason, my phone truncated my reply. I said not only was Lou a great singer but he was a very nice man as well. In our contacts, he was always respectful, easy to talk with and just a great guy. He was a professional and he knew it therefore he didn't need to treat others like garbage to let them know they were "a nobody" compared to him. I will miss him greatly. He always thanked me for either playing his songs or putting them on our Playlist. When in the Pittsburgh market, I always wondered if he was listening!
